I was running, running as fast as I could but it wasn't good enough, as we neared the old apple tree, stripped of all of the apples that once grew now gone as the ever growing herd eat them, I know Chippy is going to win he is taller and older, only by three months but still he's older. As we reach the tree Chippy had won. Again.
" ha ha, I win again." He said doing a little celebration prance. I stare at him and he bucks to show off but as he lands his back foot slips and he stumbles forward making him look less
stallion and more foal like. I laugh as we headed back to the herd. As we reached the herd I noticed that my father, Midnight, wasn't there. I asked my mother, Skye, she says that we need to get the herd out of the clearing we are in, she says Midnight had sensed humans coming towards the herd so he went to lead them off our trail, he said that we should leave him behind for now and save the herd. Me and my mum gather the herd and set off running north. I think we must have run for about half an hour, eventually we pull to a halt. We are in a meadow with long lush grass that comes up to our knees, a stream runs straight down
the middle of it, the sound of trickling water is calming after the stress of our run.we lay down and after a while everyone is asleep, that is everyone except me. Thoughts race through my mind thoughts about where my father was now where the humans are and if my father will ever come back. A rustling in the bushes interrupt my thoughts I jump up getting ready to fight with this thing. The herd are all asleep, we can't run. Then something jumps in front of me, I rear up striking it with my front hooves I spin round and kick out with my back legs, I felt my hooves connect with something I heard a whinny of pain from the animal I had just kicked,
it was Midnight, my father.
"Dad I am so sorry I thought you were a bear I didn't realise it was you. Are you ok? did I hurt you badly?"
" Neddy calm down!" he laughed at me, " I'm fine, I'll have a slight bruise but I will be ok" he whinnied to me.
I sighed in relief, if Midnight was injured we couldn't..... I didn't even want to think about what would happen, it would be to devastating!
