Jealousy

A feeling that was constantly growing, expanding inside the deepest, most tragic, most terrifying parts of The Plant. Most humans reckon that they, themselves, are extremely "good people", that they would never commit to sin, never succumb to the pressure of violence and illegal activity; the easy way out of responsibility and the easy way in to confinement, neglect and hatred. But very rarely is this true for almost every single human commits acts of murder and atrocity. Humans slaughter trees and turn their corpses into paper, they destroy countless amounts of plant life to make way for their own expansion. Minuscule insects, seemingly insignificant in the minds of humans, are swatted; mercilessly crushed to death, all because humans see themselves as superior and abuse their masses of power.

All of these intriguing questions and thoughts raced through the mind of The Plant. At times these lines of thought threatened to swallow The Plant whole. The feelings of jealousy, immense sadness and hatred welled inside the darkest parts of the mind. They threatening to turn The Plant into a hateful husk, a hollow shell filled with nothing but the darkness of those who have taken to revenge instead of the path of forgiveness. Its retched wound still tormented The Plant with constant pain that spread through its body like acid, burning holes in its sanity. Many emotions flooded the soul of this intelligent organism, causing confusion and panic. A dangerous thing,  for The Plant was still impressionable and would definitely leave a mark on the face of the earth. But would it be a pleasant mark of peace or a scorch mark of malady?

Insects buzzed through the clearing as the trees swayed in the breeze of the late morning. The Plant watched the carefree animalcules with a mixture of wonder and jealousy. They were able to live their lives free from the prison  of immobility. Freedom was one of the few things The Plant thought itself deserving of. Though The Plant was in possession of something those insects were not; intelligence and true sentience. But was freedom the price of such sentience? And was it truly worth the sacrifice? These were the questions that The Plant wanted answered, as they raced in and out of it's own mind. Then The Plant stopped whining to itself, thinking about it's own gift; it's own sentience. If it used every last grain of its intelligence, it just might be able to find a light in the darkness. An idea was manifesting inside The Plant's mind, a way to achieve what the it had always longed for. An idea that would take every last morsel of the intelligence that The Plant possessed; The possibility that great amounts of intelligence might lead to discovering ways to bring movement to those incapable. If it used every last grain of its intelligence, The Plant just might be able to find a light in the  smothering darkness.

At that moment in i,ts venturous life The Plant decided upon it's life purpose; it would be the first plant to evolve to a higher level of existence and knowledge, of ability, intelligence. A lifestyle of true sentience. The Plant would lead the way for all other flora, it would create and discover the means for all plant life to evolve beyond the petty existence that was forced upon them! Unfaltering determination filled The Plant's intricate mind, leaving no room for any distractions that may come in many forms, such as personal desires or rivalries. It would not stray from the labyrinthine path that it had chosen, The Plant was sure of that. This was the very purpose of its life after all, not to wallow in self pity but to take the next enormous step forward in the complex evolution of all plant life.
