Chapter 6: Nightmare

October 12, 1998

A month passed by surprisingly quickly. Since Harry had tumbled all the way down a moving staircase and missed the landing, which had him falling almost all the way down between all the moving staircases until Draco had Summoned him to safety, a kind of unspoken trust for Draco had formed in Harry. Before, he'd never been a big fan of trust falls, but he'd do one just fine with Draco, which was strange, and Harry tried not to think about it.

His Potions grade had pulled up to an A, and he was amused at how well Draco had adjusted to having all of his classes with Gryffindors. He spent a lot of his nights listening to Draco talking in his sleep, and he said some pretty interesting things. His midnight thoughts about how easily they had found a routine with each other when he heard a rustling over in the bed closest to the window. "No! Harry!" This pulled him out of his almost-asleep state and he somehow successfully rushed over to Draco's bed when the boy yelled out in distress. He shook Draco and tried not to be hit by the thrashing blond.

When Draco finally woke up, it was with a start. He couldn't stop himself, he hugged Harry so tightly he choked. "It was just a nightmare," he whispered to himself.  It was weird for them both, oddly comfortable. Harry understood nightmares, so he let Draco hug him. Draco couldn't find it within himself to let go. He wondered if Harry actually just couldn't. He dismissed the thought when Harry moved his arms around his torso.

Harry fell asleep first, he hadn't meant to, but he'd been up for almost twenty-four hours, and he couldn't help it. Draco stayed up for a little while after Harry's breathing had slowed and become a comforting rhythm that he could hear and feel. In his nightmare, Harry had fallen down the staircases again, but before Draco could say, "Accio!" it was too late, one of the staircases had hit Harry hard and he fell limply. But he decided not to think about it anymore. Harry was there, breathing, not a trace of red blood on him because he was laying on the green covers of Draco's bed.

It was too comfortable, Draco despaired. He shouldn't feel so happy laying with his sworn enemy. He'd been fighting the thoughts that told him what he knew was true. He slept best next to Harry Potter. It was disturbing. It was wrong. He couldn't enjoy this. This had to be the last time. With that disappointing thought, he fell into a peaceful sleep.

Harry woke up first, and he was not surprised to have a sleeping Draco on his chest. He tried not to smile. He failed. That was when Draco woke up, and he was fully rested and happy that it was a Saturday. He stretched a sat up. That was when it all came back. He groaned. The word, "What?" appeared in front of him.

"What do you mean, 'what'! This is not acceptable! I can't do this!"

"You are such a drama queen, we just fell asleep." Harry wrote in the air.

"I am not! But that logic is something I can use. We just fell asleep. No matter. We have homework."

Harry got up and went over to his own bed and collapsed onto it. Shaking his head, he got under the covers and pretended to be asleep again. "It's too late to pretend now. Get up, it's this attitude that has you only an A in potions!"

Harry changed and brushed his teeth, not even bothering with his hair. "Merlin, Potter, don't you own a brush?" Harry smiled slightly and shook his head.

They made their way down to the common room, not noticing that even though it'd already been a month, people still went quiet and stared every time they entered a room. They found an empty table and began working. After a while, Ginny came over to the table, "Er, Harry? I can't help but get the feeling that you have been avoiding me. Do you want to go to Hogsmeade with me? We could go in about-"

"He can't. I have to help him with potions, and I doubt you could handle the responsibility of catching him every time he falls and making talking for him."

Ginny scowled, "Whatever Malfoy, you just want him all to yourself."

"Hardly," Draco lied.

"Shut up, Malfoy. But he's right Ginny, I can hardly walk five feet without nearly cracking open my skull. I'm sure you heard about me falling off the stairs?" Harry wrote quickly, Draco flinched.

"I guess, Harry, I just miss you. And so do Ron and Hermione. They said you haven't fire-called in over a month." Harry blushed guiltily and shook his head.

Ginny turned away and left the eighth year common room.

"Now that I think about it, how did she get in here?" Harry wrote.

"Who knows? Let's go to breakfast."

The rumor mill had been running double time for the past month, but it seemed Harry and Draco were completely unaware. When they arrived at the Slytherin table and met Pansy and Blaise, they abruptly ended their conversation. Not that either of the boys noticed, as they were bickering. Well, Draco was bickering, Harry was writing angrily.

"Oh, just kiss already!" Pansy yelled at them. They were startled, to say the least. The entire room exploded into applause. "We've all been waiting for you two to figure it out for eight years! Do you not realize, or are you keeping us waiting in agony for fun?!"

"W-what?" Draco choked out in a very unMalfoy-like manner.

"Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!" everyone chanted.

"Oh alright, shut up!" Draco said and quickly pecked Harry on the lips and sat down in a huffy manner. He hoped it was believable. The room applauded again, figuring that should at least get the ball rolling and those two idiots would get together in this lifetime. Draco rolled his eyes as Harry sat down clumsily. They ate quickly and set off for the eighth year common room, not looking at each other or anyone else.

So this probably sucked, but I couldn't wait anymore! Ahhhhhh! I am fangirling over this so much but I'm probably the only one. Was it too soon? I mean it was a month, I think that's enough, lol. If you made it this far, I congratulate you. Drarry! Yay!
