Siya touched her bleeding lip. What was she feeling now? Hate, disgust, anger .She ran up the stairs and found herself at the place she vouched never to go and at a time she should never go. She knocked door in front of her - Presidential Suite 3505. It was almost past one. Young Do opened the door sleepily. You can still have a good night sleep as if nothing happened. Siya once again felt betrayed. It seemed like night of betrayal. "For Times Like This" That was the only thing she could manage.
YOUNG DO was looking at Siya- she was wearing an oversized shirt. Her hair was wet, but that did not disturb him. Then he saw her face, her lip was torn on the side and seemed like it bled. She was crying. "Why? What happened?" He tried to take a closer look. She stepped back. "I Said - for times like this." she said not looking at him. He knew that what it meant. "No question asked. Just let the other be with you until he feels like he can go back and fight his own battle." - this was how he defined it on that fateful night. He let her in. She stepped inside the room. He could feel that she was angry over something. Siya cried less because she was in pain than when she was angry. But what made him concern the most was her torn lip.
Siya did not know why she came here, when he asked her not to see her. she sat on the chair. Young Do went in the bathroom and came with the first aid kit. Young Do saw her lost in the thoughts, tears rolling down her cheeks and Siya not caring to wipe them. Young Do took the stool and sat in front of her. She looked at him with no expression. He took some anti infectant on cotton and dabbed it on her lip. Siya did not cringe. But when he came closer, Siya pushed him away and stood away from him. "Siya, it's me." Young Do got off the floor. This made Siya came to senses. "Choi Young Do, I'm sorry."
"What happened, Siya? Who did this to you? Tell me." he finally broke their promise. "For times like this" she kept on repeating, Siya was adamant. "I don't care. I want the name of that low life who dared to hurt you, my Siya. Who is that bastard? Tell me. I will kill him. Tell me his name." Young Do could not bear to see her in pain. "And when you really cared?" she said. "When did you care, Choi Young Do?" she repeated in low calm voice. "Choi Young Do" he repeated with a smirk. Choi Young Do not Jeonah ! If she thought that Young Do could not recognize her way of distancing him she was wrong.
Blanket
Rest of the night was just an angry silence between two people who truly cared about each other, but somehow drifted away. It was as if two waves embrace eathother in momentary solitude only to part away. Young Do sat on the sofa looking at Siya was standing in the balcony. She was watching at now sleepy posh Gangnam allies. She took bath and was now wearing her supplies that he brought with him. He knew she was now streamlining her thoughts like she always did. It made him wonder how he knew her more than anyone. He knew he had hurt her so much, so many times. It was him who pushed her away because he was obsessed with Cha Eun Sang. He saw his feeling towards her as a hindrance in getting his first love.
Siya had turned an insomniac since her last conversation with Young Do. was it even a conversation? He said that only one sentence - Lets not see eachother, and simply left her. He started avoiding her calls, her messages. She could not understand why he was angry, what was her mistake? She kept thinking and thinking but she would come with no answer.
The night was rather cold. Siya shivered. Young Do saw her rubbing her hands on her arms. He got up , took the blanket lying on the bed. He opened the balcony door. She was still lost in her thoughts. He put the blanket over her shoulder being careful not to be close to her. She did not deny it, she wrapped it around her tightly. "Come inside. You are quick to catch the cold." He said as hoarsely as possible, trying to conceal his worry as much as he could. She refused to talk or look at him. He wanted to comfort as she did when they went to see his mother and he lost his nerves. He wanted to say all the good things the way she said to him. But he was afraid that she would leave. But then why was he afraid that she would leave? What if she would never come back to him? But then he was the one who decided the fate of their relationship, it was his decision to distance her. He wrapped the blanket he took from the bed around her. He stood next to her, still maintaining distance, refusing to let her be alone.
He was looking at her in dim moonlight and she was looking at Seoul skyline. It was as if she wanted to remember it, this moment, this night. As if there was no tomorrow, like she would not be able to see it again.
"Haji ma. Don't do that." He said. "Whatever you are thinking of doing, don't do it." She just smiled dryly and continued looking at the sleeping Seoul. The world was so cold without her warm smile. He wanted her warmth, her warm touch, her smile that could fix any broken heart. He wanted to share the blanket with her on this cold night. Even though , SiYa loved being alone, Sharing was always her thing. She would easily share anything she'd got. Young Do was rather opposite. He would never share. But he did not understand what made the role reversed. He wanted to share his feelings, he wanted to share the blanket, he wanted to talk to her, he wanted her to be her old crazy self , her high fives, her mischievous smiles. But she would not share anything, neither thoughts, her grieves nor her glees.
He did not blink an eye, but she was so resolute to avoid him. A cold breeze blew. Young Do let out a cold shiver. Siya saw him trying valiantly to withstand the cold. She silently opened the door and went inside the room. She still would not share the blanket , He thought and followed her inside.
He saw her walking towards the door. "No. You cannot leave now. , like you said. You have to stay till the sun rises. You sleep on the bed. I will be on the couch." Young Do stopped her. She looked at him and lied down on the bed looking at the ceiling. Young Do stayed awake as much as he could, he dared not sleep fearing that she would leave as soon as he fell asleep. It was still early hours of dawn, he gave in. He dozed off. He woke up hearing door being shut. He got up and looked at the bed. It was empty. He ran to the door. He saw Siya standing near the elevator. She is leaving without a goodbye. A pain irrupted in his heart. He made a run towards her. The door opened she went inside. He stopped the elevator with hand. Siya looked at him but did not talk. He held her hand and pressed 40th floor. "Let go" she tried to protest. He was beyond reasoning. He had enough of her cold behavior. The Elevator reached 40th floor the lift opened. They were at the terrace garden- Their secret hideout from the world where they would be just them- A crazy misfit and a kind loving soul.
"Let go of me, Choi Young Do" she said. "My Lord" he corrected. "Choi Young Do" she repeated. "It is Jeon ha." He said. "I told you not to leave. Then why did you leave when I was asleep?" He asked. "Sun had already risen, so I left" She said. "Without saying a goodbye?" He asked. "I have learnt it from you. I do not feel the need of saying it. Wasn't it obvious I was to leave once the sun rises?"
"There was the need Young Do said. "There was all the need it could be. I wanted a proper goodbye."
"So did I. So did I, Choi Young Do." Siya snapped. He came closer and held her arms and brought her closer to him. His nostrils flared. She did not look away. "YOU ARE NOT LEAVING ME. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DO THAT- NOT TODAY NOT EVER." Young Do said pulling her closer so that her face was inches away from his. Siya smirked at him. "I cannot possibly do that, because you left me first,Jeon ha (My Lord)." Young Do stepped back and lost his grip. She released herself and walked towards the elevator. Young Do was now looking at her back, unable to find words to call her back. I lost her, she is never coming back. I lost her.
When Young Do reached Hotel's Kitchen, he did not see Siya. He waited in the kitchen till late evening, hoping for a miracle , trying to defy the fates. She did not come. He tried her number for a hundredth time. It came unreachable. Finally he gave in and asked Jae Min where she was. He said that he did not know and he would never tell Young Do even if he knew. Jae Min told him how she was upset for past two weeks and she hardly slept and was constantly worrying. "I am sorry." Young Do mumbled. Mr. Lee told him that Siya had given her resignation and it was approved .She was denied the gratuity benefits because she was leaving in the short notice. He told him how CEO Choi made remarks on her integrity, and she was given a bad record making sure that she would never be able to work in any other hotels. "Stupid girl! What was she thinking coming back? She had so many dreams. She knew that the stakes were high." said Mr. Lee.
He went to her home it was locked. So he went to Secretary Yoon's house. She was not there either.
"Can you tell me where she went?" Young Do asked hoping that someone answered. "About a week back, she told me that she wanted to go back to India to complete her college, and had already started applying for the universities in Mumbai and Delhi. She is awaiting the response from the colleges. Yesterday, she called me and said she wanted to say goodbye to someone dearest to her." Secretary Yoon told him. Young Do said his Thank You and started his way back to the empty Presidential Suit Room No 3505. He was his thirteen year old self again and there was no Kim Tan to help him found Siya.
