I shake my head in confusion.
"No, Ryder that makes no sense. Why would they want me? They don't take in purebreds."
"The Fangs are known for being ruthless and deadly. You are exactly that. Felix saw you kill that man with his own eyes." I stand up, suddenly angry.
"Well fuck Felix! I belong here." Ryder stands up also, remaining calm.
"Its not up to you. I meant it when I said they would do whatever it takes." I run a hand through my hair, agitated and slightly pissed of at Ryder. Does he think I can't handle myself? After taking abuse from my dad I'm sure I can fight off a few less powerful vampires.
"He is crazy if he thinks I would ever join him."
"Well I am glad to hear that. Remember, I took you in off the streets Octavia. I made you who you are. Don't make me regret it." I nod at him. "You are dismissed." I turn and leave his room, swinging the door shut behind me.
It's dark out. I look down at my watch. 11:15
Perfect
I walk down the bedroom corridor and twist down the stairs. The building seems to be completely empty, our people glad to be away and in the open air. Being stuck inside all day with a bunch of rowdy and occasionally drunk vampires doesn't always end well. We always look forward to curfew.
Just as I go to open the door to the building I hear a voice behind me.
"You aren't leaving without me are you?" I smile to myself, turning around to see Phoenix.
"I thought you had already left."
"You thought wrong." He walks up to me, his face close to mine. Thinking he is going to kiss me I close my eyes, only to hear the door beside me unlock and swing open. My eyes widen, briefly embarrassed. "After you." he says, I turn and step out of the door, the cold air welcoming.
"So where to?" I ask, turning to face him. He shrugs indifferently.
"I'll follow you."
"If you can keep up." I say with a smirk. I spin around and sprint down the streets as fast as I can, which is insanely fast. I hear Phoenix running close behind me, getting dangerously close. He will catch me if I don't think fast. I suddenly make a sharp left turn, running down a small street before entering a forest. He is further behind me now, my turn catching him off guard. I can hear him steadily getting closer. He has always been faster than me. Suddenly two arms wrap around my waist from behind, surprising me and causing me to fall onto a heap of pine needles. I look up at him, a smile on my face.
"I guess you caught me." He laughs, standing over me.
"I will always catch you." I reach a hand up to him and he takes it, pulling me to my feet. Once I am standing up I wrap my arms around his neck, leaning forward to kiss him. A noise to our left causes us to stop before our lips touch.
"I told you this was a bad idea!"
"Well what do you expect me to do, Denise? We can't go back, the streets will be crawling with those, things." Phoenix raises an eyebrow at me and mouths a word.
Hungry?
I nod with a smile. He takes my hand and we walk towards the couple. We watch them in the shadows for a moment, not exposing ourselves yet. A man and a woman, both of them look about thirty. I notice they both wear wedding rings, a married couple. The lady slumps against a tree. "Greg. Stop, I am exhausted." The man, Greg turns to see her sitting on the ground pathetically. Just as he goes to walk over to her I step from the shadows, standing between them.
"Don't you know it's past curfew?" The lady screams and I look at her unamused. "Who do you expect to hear you out here? Nobody is going to help you. If anything, you will just attract more of us for dinner." She stops screaming, her shouts turning into a timid whimper.
"Don't you dare hurt her!" the man yells, about to run to attack me. Phoenix suddenly emerges from the shadows and steps in front of him, placing a hand on his chest. In an extremely calm manner he speaks.
"Don't be a hero."
"You can have him." I say, eyeing up the violent protective man. "I know you like your dinner to put up a fight." I bend down and pull the lady to her feet, wrapping one arm around her neck and one around her arm as I bring her closer to Greg. I pull a knife from my belt, bringing it to her face. The mans yells in anger, attempting to shove past Phoenix to get to me. He doesn't make it even a step before Phoenix is behind him twisting his arm behind his back. Phoenix kicks the man in the back of the knee, causing him to fall forward into a kneeling position. I press the side of the blade gently against the womans face, only just breaking the skin. Phoenix grabs the man by his hair and yanks his head up, forcing him to watch his wife. Denise cries, her tears mixing with the fresh blood tricking down the side of her face.
"Don't worry." I whisper into her ear "When I end it, I will do it quick." This makes her sob louder, making Greg struggle even more.
"Leave her alone! I will fucking kill you!" I tut my tongue.
"That was very rude. You need to learn to be more polite." I move the knife from Denise's face and quickly thrust it into her stomach. She lets out a sharp cry, almost falling to her knees. I hold her up, pulling the blade out of her stomach. Her mouth opens wide, trickles of blood dripping from the corners of her mouth.
"I love you, Greg." She sobs, her voice shaking. I roll my eyes.
"Oh, how poetic." I grip her head between my hands and twist until I hear a loud snap. Her body falls limp in my hands and I drop her to the ground.
Gone
Greg yells at me, thrusting to get out of Phoenix's grip.
"You fucking bitch! When I get my hands on you-" I thrust my leg up and kick him hard in the face.
"Did you not learn anything about being polite?" I glance up at Phoenix, smiling evilly. "Maybe you should teach him another lesson?" I suggest. The mans shouts fill the trees as the blood is drained from his body.

I laugh as I walk away from the murder scene, Phoenix laughs too.
"God damn, I forgot how crazy you get when you feed."
"I didn't even feed from her." I say, ducking under a low hanging branch. My eyes take in the strangely familiar surroundings. I remember this place, I just can't place where from.
"Where are you taking me?"
"Right here." he steps into the circular clearing, extending his arms. I raise an eyebrow in confusion causing him to roll his eyes. "Maybe it will look more familiar from this angle." he grabs my hand and presses my back up against a tree, looking down on me. His hair glows in the moonlight but his face is cast in shadows. I smile as I remember.
"This is where you first kissed me." I say in realisation.
"It won't be the last place." He says, "I have been wanting to kiss you all night." He presses his mouth against mine. I kiss him back, arching my body into his. His hands grab the bottom of my shirt, lifting it over my head. I smile as I kiss him.
If only every moment could be so perfect
