Chapter Four

Then came a prince who is sure to steal her heart…

Selena’s heart hammered inside her chest as her insides trembled. Her knees grew weak knowing what this man in shadows can do to her. Was he even a man? Selena’s mind was stricken with fear. Her mind told her to run and get away from the darkness as fast as possible, but her treacherous body held her feet pinned on the floor in the center of the room not moving an inch.

Her blue eyes moved from left to right hoping to see a glimpse of the monster in the darkness. Selena jerked her body around clockwise, then repeating her actions counterclockwise. She felt stupid, but she knew she wasn’t imagining hearing his smooth velvety voice just now. She suddenly felt a pair of warm masculine arms wrapped around her petite body. A soft shaken gasp escaped her luscious lips. The room felt colder than it was before. Her lower lip quivered in fear. She felt his breath on her ear, brushing the soft sensitive skin there.

''You’re trembling, Selena, ''He breathed. His smooth baritone voice sending shivers down her spine. His hand move up touching the bare skin of her neck and reached the scar he proudly claimed. She shuddered not wanting the feel of his hands touching her without restraints. ''I assume you still remember me. ''

''Y-you, '' her voice croaked. Short flashes of the night of her little adventure struck her mind. She could never forget him and how he drained all the courage Selena’s got that night.  Somehow, Selena’s mouth and throat felt so dry she couldn’t speak.

Tears streamed down young Selena’s eyes as her small fragile body trembled in fear. Her wrists pinned against the moist grassy forest ground. She has gone out to the woods for a mini adventure. There have been rumors before about the gloomy thick forest.

''When darkness strikes, creatures of the dark begin roaming around that forest. They’ve been children missing these days and my folks said the forest took those children. '' Selena once heard some boys and girls of her age talking. She approached them and asked whatever it is they were on about.

''What kind of creatures would your parents say were in that forest, Tick? '' A girl asked.

''Lukos, '' Tick replied adding a dramatic gesture to scare his young friends further. Tick was Selena’s best male companion. His round slate gray eyes sparkled as he tells daunting tales to his chums including Selena. Selena would roll her eyes knowing he was making stories to scare the other kids. ''Ghouls, witches, reapers! ''

''Selena, you live near that woods, aye? ''

Selena would only nod her head. She didn’t believe any of those tittle-tattles since she’s been living near that woodland for the last seven years of her life. Yes, there have been children missing from their town and the other, but maybe, it was all just a coincidence. She thinks the rumors were spread by angry parents who did not have anyone else to blame to. Instead of blaming themselves for their imprudence, they made hearsays then and there until the rumors spread across the land.

One of her childhood friends challenged her to prove the rumors hoax. Selena could not say no, she never did. She was known to be a very brave child. She accepted the challenge willfully thinking of everything as a mini escapade since she’s always been in-love with travelers and their grand adventures. She wanted to be in one and now she’s regret she ever wished such a silly thing.

Now, she has stepped on the territory of the most feared creature in the dark. A pair of radiating blood red eyes that glint in the darkness. Selena could not make out the rest of his features other than his eyes. She was terrified. These eyes might be the most stunning pair of orbs she had ever seen, but there was a hint of something dangerous that made her heart clench in fear.
