Isaiah ~
Israel's mother, Janice, ran into the hospital and ran directly over to Israel.
"Oh my gosh! Thank you for calling Carlos!"
Carlos kind of glanced over at me, as if he were in some kind of trouble, timidly finding the floor with his eyes moments later.
"Mom, I'm fine," Israel huffed.
"Boy shut up, no you're not, you're in a freaking wheel chair. My baby, oh my god."
She kissed him on his forehead and hugged him.
...After a period of time, Israel and Carlos went home, leaving Janice and I alone.
She stood at the hospital doors, staring out of them into the distance.
I stood from the chair I was sitting in and apprehensively walked over to her with my hands in my pockets.
"Hey Janice."
She slowly turned and weakly smiled.
"Hi Isaiah."
Even though we were friends now, every time I was around her, I felt extremely guilty about what happened between us.
"How have you been," I asked.
She nodded, stepping closer to me.
"I've been better... I guess you could say."
She breathed quietly as she stared at me with an unreadable expression, her eyes full of hope
and palm."I... hope you can forgive me for..."
She waved her hand in the air and interrupted me.
"Isaiah, it's not worth apologizing for... it's in the past now. It's time for us both to look over it and be cordial with each other," she said plainly.
I nodded, not really understanding what she meant as she suddenly turned to leave.
Glancing back at me before leaving, she forced a smile, wiping her eyes moments later as she walked on out the door,
I felt a wave of guilt rush over me but didn't know how to respond to it as I stood there staring at her fading figure walking off into the distance.
...
David ~
"No grandma, he's fine, the nurse said that he only had the flue."
I was sitting in the kitchen, watching Roderick play with some of his toys in the living room.
"Oh... well I'm glad you still went and checked anyway; we can't be too careful you know," my grandma sighed into the phone.
"Yea, we can... never be too careful," I repeated thoughtfully.
"Well honey, I'll let you go, I have to go and watch my stories before they go off."
