Isaiah ~
Sitting the passenger side of David's car, I was anxious to see where we were going on this date; on top of that, David wouldn't tell me no matter how many times I asked.
He kept repeating that it was a surprise every time, each time progressively cheerful.
My phone buzzed in my pocket as we drove, prompting me to check it to see that it was Israel calling me.
Answering him, I was immediately met with his loud and excited voice.
"Hey dadtron!"
"Hey my little precious robot," I retorted after wincing.
I heard David chuckle to himself as Israel began to speak again.
"Dad, I'm grown now, I'm not your precious."
"You'll always be my precious son, no matter how old you get," I responded firmly.
He sighed in response.
"Geez, I love you too dad. I'm just checking on you and letting you know that I'm doing well in recovery. Also, what are you doing at the moment?"
"That's awesome, and yea... I'm on a date."
"What! You're dating and you didn't tell me? Who is she!"
I pulled my phone away from my ear and cleared my throat awkwardly after catching David smiling.
I never told Israel about my struggle with sexuality; Janice and I decided not to tell him when we had the divorce.
Should I tell him?
Yea, there's no reason not to tell him now.
Here goes nothing.
"Umm, it's actually a he."
There was silence on his end of the phone.
Obviously, I knew he wouldn't mind it, but the prolonged silence made me a bit anxious to say the least.
"Oh... you never told me that you like dick dad," he said suddenly, making me stutter.
Did he really just...
"Israel-is... gosh son... really."
An outbreak of laugher rang in my ears in response to my embarrassment.
"I'm sorry... but hey, tell me about how the date goes later; Carlos just walked in."
"Ok... bye son."
With that, I put my phone in my pocket and glanced over at David as he was staring at the road with a small grin on his lips.
..."We're here."
I looked out of the window and saw that we were at the park.
A park date... this late?
David smiled and started to grab for something in his back seat; a picnic basket. I instantly lit up in smiles and went to grab the basket myself only to get my hand slapped.
