"Guys, this is John Morrison," Alexander said with a smile, introducing his new friend to his cousin and company.

"Hola, Johnny boy. I'm Usnavi. That's Benny, Sonny, Pete, Vanessa, and Nina." Naturally, Usnavi almost stumbled on Vanessa's name. Which was to be expected. Alexander smirked a bit and gave his cousin a look that said "Just ask her out," almost laughing and Usnavi gave him a look that said "No way in hell," in return.

John gave a small hello to people, sitting down next to Alex. Alexander just smiled at him and tried to carry on some kind of conversation with him while the others went back to their own discussions. "So what else do you like other than The Mortal Instruments?" he asked.

"Um... other books?"

"Like?"

"Well, um... it's a long list," he mumbled, smiling softly.

"Well then just name a few."

"Okay, um... Artemis Fowl, The Unwanteds, The Book Thief, The Lunar Chronicles, Divergent, Warriors, The Maze Runner, The Mortality Doctrine series, the-"

"Wait, what's The Mortality Doctrine?" Alexander asked, tilting his head.

"Um, like, The Eye of Minds, The Rule of Thoughts, and The Game of Minds," he explained with a small blush tinting his cheeks. "They're by James Dashner, the same person who wrote The Maze Runner..."

"Oh, cool. I'll have to read that some time," Alex marveled happily. "I can tell you're passionate about books. Any other likes?"

"I, um... I play video games sometimes..."

Alexander noticed that this guy seemed pretty shy, until you got him talking about his passions. But that was okay. It was adorable, really. "Really? Me too. What games?"

"Uh... Skyrim, mostly," he said with a shy smile.

"Oh, yeah, I love that game. Which class suits you best?"

He smiled a little wider. "I usually go for thief. Warrior just isn't my type, and it's so much better than being a mage."

"Oh yeah. But of course, I've tried all three. Thief is my favorite, though. I really do like the Thieves Guild."

John was about to say something else when Usnavi tapped Alex's shoulder. "Hey, Alexander, this idiota over here that goes by the name of Benny forgot to do his homework, and now he doesn't remember how to do it."

"Well, what is it?"

"Pre Calc."

Alexander sighed. "Alright. What does he need help with?" He hesitantly switched seats to go help Benny.

John sat there and worried his cheek. He didn't really know these people. Alexander seemed alright, but he didn't know about the others. And then someone tapped his shoulder. He turned around, confused.

"Hey, you mind if I sit here?" a boy John knew asked, pointing to the chair to John's left. He shrugged, and the boy sat, setting his lunch tray on the table.

"Justin, where are your friends? Shouldn't you be sitting with them?" he asked his... could he be considered a friend? He was just his partner in the history project. But he seemed okay, like Alexander. It was scary how much Justin looked like himself, though.

"They're all out today. All two of them."

John laughed softly. "Alright."

"You seem to have made some more friends though."

"Nah, just one. I don't know these other people, really."

"Well still, you've already got a friend."

"Um... more like acquaintance." Could he consider Alexander a friend? He wasn't sure.

"You know his name?" Justin asked, popping a grape into his mouth.

"Uh, Alexander."

"Catchy. Share any interests?"

"Yeah... why do you seem so interested?"

"I'm just curious about the friends my history partner is making. I gotta make sure he doesn't hang out with the wrong people." He smiled at John.

"Okay... Why do you care?"

"Because we're friends. Duh."

"Oh, um... okay." So now he had two supposed friends? Huh.

"Oooh, there goes Naomi. I'll talk to you later." Forgetting his tray, Justin stood and casually walked over to some light-skinned girl. John  smiled softly, though he was once again left alone. With nothing to do until Alexander was finished helping his friend, he cracked open his book and continued to read.

(And now a time skip to 7th Period)

John was honestly sure that he wasn't going to see Alexander again. Heck, the kid would probably forget about him by tomorrow. He wasn't a memorable guy. And then seventh period came along. Turned out, they actually shared the class, because it wouldn't be a fanfic if they didn't share at least one class together. The Pre AP Language Arts teacher, Ms. Bradbury, sat them next to each other, muttering something about a new ship? John had no clue what she was talking about, but he just slowly made his way to the seat next to Alexander and slid in. He offered a small smile, which the shorter boy returned. He opened his notebook to start taking notes on writing an argumentative essay.

When there were about ten minutes of class left, Ms. Bradbury allowed them to work together for their first essay. She handed out papers with the topic to everyone before setting them free. John took a glance at the paper with a single quote on it:

"There is no odor so bad as that which arises from goodness tainted." - Henry David Thoreau.

He stared at it in confusion. What exactly was he supposed to write with this? With a sigh, he looked at Alexander. "Um... do you know exactly what we're supposed to do?" he whispered shyly.

"Yeah." The boy looked up from where he was already starting to write. "Just... do you agree or disagree with the statement?"

"Um, I agree, I guess."

"Okay, why do you agree with it?"

"Um..." he thought for a moment. "I guess because it's basically saying that to be good and then corrupted by evil is the worst thing that could happen to someone... I think..."

"That's good. Use that." He went on to help him through the essay, while writing his own at the same time. They both barely finished by the time the bell rang.

"Thank you so much, Alexander. I don't think I would have even started on that if you hadn't helped," John admitted with a smile.

"I was happy to help, John. If you need help with anything else, don't hesitate to ask, okay?"

"Alright. Thanks again." He slung his backpack over his shoulder. "I'll see you tomorrow, then, I suppose?"

"Yeah, of course." Alexander smiled at him. "Until then. Bye."

"Bye." He walked off school grounds and started for home. After walking the short distance, he threw his backpack in his room. He could do his homework later. Right now, he was feeling some video games. At least until his father got home. Then he'd have to start. But until then... Video games.

~~

Okay, so here's chapter two. Sorry it took a little while for only this long. Writers block is horrible. Also, I'm putting in one of my legitimate classes so I can accurately write about a class. So y'all get to learn things! So that's basically it. Until the next chapter.
