A/n: Warning: Feels major feels.

The wind tousles your hair as you walk down to the beach. You pass a sign, the letters faded and unreadable. Faded like your feelings and memories of a certain man.

Irritated by yourself, you shake your head as if can chase away the thoughts of him in this manner. After all, you swore to yourself to sink those memories in the murky waters of the darkest corner of your mind, so that nobody can fish them out again.

Letting your eyes scan the place to make sure you are alone, you note that everything is untouched and remarkable...clean, as if the place hasn't seen a soul for years. Gras grows here and there, windswept and dry, and shells peak out of the fine, pale sand.

A gust of wind blows at you with full force, making you topple over and land on the sand, where you stay seated. Waves splash on the shore and the harsh waters have an unfriendly shade of gunmetal, mirroring the storm clouds up ahead. In a way it reminds of....

No, it is the day you have elected to finally let go of the past so that he can no longer haunt you. You can't let your thoughts of him get the better of you. But maybe it is just the right thing to do.

Reaching into your coat pocket you take a buddle of photos out. All the good and bad times come flooding back to you as you flick through them. Coming to the last one you halt. On it, you are both smiling as if you are having the time of your lives, your arms slung over each other's shoulders and holding a bottle of beer each.

Clamping your eyes shut you fish for a lighter in your clothes. A small flame springs forth when it is turned on and you hold it to the bottom left corner of the stack, calmly watching the bright display. Slowly they go up in smoke and the dying embers fall to the ground. It takes minutes for the pictures to dissolve into ashes. Finally, the fire eats away at the face of Matthias Kohler, distorting his features into a black mass and you let the coals fall to the ground when the fire starts to bit at your fingers. Staring below you, a sweet sense of freedom floods you as the last embers die down, leaving behind a heap of cinders which the wind takes away, and throwing the black specks up it the air.

Relief washes over you and you can't help but close your eyes and smile. It is if you've carried a burden around for all this time and you can finally stand straight again that it is gone. You are so deep in thought and the bliss that you are feeling that you don't notice the man sitting next to you until he says:

"It is a beautiful sight isn't it?"

Had it been a few month before, then you would freeze at the sound of his voice but now you just stare into the blue eyes of Matthias and reply casually: "Yes indeed."

He hasn't changed at all since you last saw him. The blond hair still stands up as if he has just been electrocuted and his skin is as pale as ever. Although his blood-red shirt and black pant hang a bit loosely and his frame as if he hasn't been eating much, his aura is still more that of an untamed wild beast than a regular person.

A tinge of surprise flashes across his face when you don't back and eventually he turns to face the sea again. Glancing out of the corner of his eyes he questions: "So no greeting? No '"How are Matthias?"' after all this time? Where have your manners scampered off to?"

Shaking your head you cover your eyes with a hand and stare at him through your fingers, countering: "Don't make me laugh. Do you really expect such a thing after what you've done to me?"

"A sharp tongue as always. I should've expected nothing less", he teases you before pressing a beer bottle to his lips.

Long ago, you used to laugh at his teasing, occasionally sending a jab back, but that was before things went downhill.
