A/n: This is the request from HariboBie. Hope you like it. Warnings: Blood, manipulation.

Stroking over your bandages you sigh softly. All you remember is that you were trekking up a mountain looking for someone or something before the earth began to rumble and the world went white and you blacked out.

You had been as cold as ice and half-covered by snow when Vash had found you, or at least he said so. Vash Zwigl, he seems so familiar but you can't recall knowing him. For some reason, you remember nothing that happened before the avalanche except a few precious seconds.

Everything seems so surreal and foggy when you try to remember your past. Vash said it is just a temporal memory loss and that you'll recover soon. What he says has to have some merit, he is a Red Cross doctor after all.

The said person is seated before the fireplace, staring into the flames as if he can find the answers to all his problems in them. You walk up to him, coming to stand directly behind him.

He swerves his head around once you whine:" For how long do we have to stay here? I'm bored."

" How many times do I have to tell you? The roads here are all blocked by the snow and it's best not to risk anything with your injuries. So we have to sit it out", he sighs softly before continuing.

" Well, make us both some coffee and fetch yourself some books."

Slightly disappointed you press your lips to a thin line but you don't dare utter a word.

While the faint humming of the coffee machine can be heard in the background, you stand on a stool so that you can reach the books on top of the wardrobe. At first, you only grimace at the sortiment of books. "Finance and Money" and "Law" are certainly not the type of things you would read. You want to give up, turn away and go to your bedroom to take a nap as a way to pass the time but then you see a title that sparks your interest. It leaves a hole once you pull it out.

With a satisfied feeling you read the text on the back and you want to step down from the chair when you see something out of the corner of your eye.

Taking a closer look, you see a folder at the very back, against the wall. It admits a mysterious aura, one promises many untold secrets but screams danger at the same time.

The temptation washes away any cautious thoughts and you carefully drag it out of it's hiding place. With a quick wave of your hand, you brush the thick layer of dust off.

Your hand trembles as you reach out to open the heavy thing but then the rough voice of your host calls out, making you freeze: "(Y/n), what is taking so long?"

Like a child caught doing something wrong you flinch. Quickly you hid your find under the coats in the wardrobe and reassure Vash that everything is alright.

Taking deep breaths to calm yourself down you take the tray with your book and the two mugs of coffee to the living room.

It takes all your willpower to suppress the trembling in your hands so that it is unnoticeable. For some reason, it is much more difficult to go to the man now. Can it be that just the sight of the folder caused some unpleasant memories to resurface? No, it can't be, the past is still unclear.

But you still can't help but pray that Vash wouldn't see your nervous state.

His skeptical eyes trace over you once you enter the room and you think that it is game over for you when you see his pondering expression. To your relief, he simply turns away and doesn't say a word to you. But then again, his silence disturbs you more for you know that he does suspect something and that it's only the calm before the storm. That he is only watching how things develop before taking action.
