I stopped in front of my Mom's house. Woah, I thought. Most of the houses on the block were white but her's was a dark blue. Most houses had a small garden but she had a fucking forest of roses and daisies with a bunch of dream catchers hanging.
I haven't seen my mom in 17 years or my Dad. Apparently my Mom was abused by my Dad and she ran off leaving me at a foster home. I wasn't really pissed. I was glad that she was alright.
"Nice house." I murmured as I dragged my luggage inside. The inside was a whole different story. The walls were white with a bunch of paint splattered. She had awkward sculptures and she didn't even have an actual dining table. It was a coffee table with a bunch of cushions around it.
"Seriously?" She asked, seeming really surprised.
"Yeah. I mean it's different. Different's cool." I gave a weak smile. I was glad to finally meet my Mom and I'm pretty sure she was too, but that didn't stop the situation from being awkward.
"Thanks." She smiled back. "Let me show you to your room." She turned right into a hallway and at the end of the hallway the stairs went down. "This house and our neighbors on the right are the only houses with a downstairs." She took a left and there was a door at the end and one to the right. She opened the door on the right.
It opened to a big spacious room. There was a bed there with a polka-dot bed set, the walls were a light blue, and there were two beanbags. There was a medium sized window that was above ground which let some light in.
"Wow this is nice. Thanks." I set my luggage's down and sat on the bed. I had major jet-lag. The flight from Oregon to Melbourne isn't exactly the most comfortable.
"It was a bit hard trying to decide what a 17 year old girl likes so I decided to play it safe."
"You did fine. Blue's my favorite color." I replied.
"Oh good. It was a lucky guess." She laughed a little. We were left with her leaning in the door way and me sitting on my bed awkwardly. She cleared her throat. "Um anyway so school starts in a week. You'll be going to Penola. It's about a 7 minute walk from here. Our neighbors, the ones with a downstairs, they have 2 boys that go there so you'll probably meet them. Their names are Jai and Luke. They have an older brother, Beau, and he's trying to sort out his life." She chuckled. "They're really good fellows, a bit crazy but from what I hear you'll fit in just fine." I knew what she meant by that. I had almost got suspended 3 times for my actions. I was really out-going. When someone dared me to do something I did it without question. It was my way of living life. That was partially the reason I was here. My last shenanigan was that I went from one end of the cafeteria to the other without touching the ground.
I had to jump from table to chair and then I was sent to the principals. My foster parents found out and that was one of the reasons I was here at Melbourne.
"I guess they're a bit crazy too?" I chuckled.
"Very. Anyway um I have to go to work in 30 minutes so I left you some money if you want to go shopping and your car's in the garage." She threw me a pair of keys. I looked at her wide-eyed.
"You bought me a car?!" I exclaimed.
"Yeah. I thought that was every teenagers dream." She looked at me like a frightened animal.
"Well yeah it is! But it didn't cost a lot or anything?"
"Nah I've been saving up money to buy one for the day I'd meet you again." She turned away and I heard her walk upstairs. Wow she's been waiting for me forever, I thought. I closed my eyes and laid down on the bed. It had a scent like cupcakes.
