A M*A*S*H Fanfic: The Life of Hawkeye Pierce

Chapter 3: Tired on the job

   As you know, Hawkeye is a surgeon. And he's also the chief surgeon in the 4077th.  And people in camp say he makes a real fine doctor. He is like the best among of the others. And he is pretty much always on duty, unless being on R&R. 

For Hawkeye, being a surgeon takes a lot out of him. By the time he finishes a surgery he is already pooped out. And all he pretty much does afterwards is sleep.

But if there is a patient emergency or something  and he needs to be woken up, he basically just gets up like he was already wide awake. But if it's just something minor and Radar comes in to tell him something he just tells him to go away. Even if it is important.

One night, it was around midnight Radar entered the swamp and he had to get Hawkeye up and moving since he was on duty, but he wouldn't budge.

Radar: "Hawkeye, wake up, Hawkeye."

Hawkeye:" Radar, go away."

Radar: " But you must get up, you are on duty starting now."

Hawkeye:"what time is it?"

Radar: " About 01200, midnight sir."

Hawkeye is pretty stubborn when someone tries to get him up. He pretty much wants to just sleep longer. But out of the medical staff at the M*A*S*H unit, who wouldn't? Surgery can be long and rough. It takes a lot of the staff. 

There was this one day where Hawkeye was awake but he had been working for 3 days straight and was supposed to get sleep, but in came more wounded and he kept working as tired as hell. So Col. Blake gave him a day off and to sleep. But he just couldn't. But then eventually they decided they needed to sedate Hawkeye but it didn't go as planned. Instead Frank got it on accident.

Yeah crazy stuff happens when people are tired at the 4077th.  But it's just the way it works. Being on duty can make anyone of the staff tired on the job.
