Avery took the cluster of seeds from her mouth and stepped towards Wesley.
She knelt down beside him and began to pick each Dreinfpish seed from its stem.
The seeds were nearly twice as big as a cat's eye marble and had a soft, brown shell. Inside was a light blue substance that almost felt like a cream or lotion.
Avery peeled the shell off the seeds and rubbed the blue lotion onto the red of Wesley's skin.
The seeds didn't bring instant relief, but after a short while, they began to help ease the pain.
Wesley stood up on his feet, which he was now able to do.
He looked at the places where the thorns had been, but there was no longer a rash. Slight scars, but the pain was gone.
"Thanks," he said as he gave Avery a hug.
Avery hugged him back and said, "Anytime," with a smile.
The two children wandered in the woods for a bit, talking, playing around and having fun.
But as usual, the sun began to set low and the children went back home.
Siyel was relieved of her task and Avery was home again.
But it didn't feel like home.
Not with a fence that kept her from the outside world.
