"Come on Alec, you know you want to." I say trying to pull him off of the bed, this guy is made of rocks I swear. After the 'incident' where he crawled from the couch to his bed I decided it was only fair that I take the couch.

"But I hate the beach. Sand, sun, stupid seagulls." He grumbles out from under his pillow. As the weather, today was expected to be exceptional I decided that Alec and I should get to know each other better by going down to the beach.

"Come on, think of the warm sun, the cool water, the attractive girls in bikinis..." by the time I had said that he was up and getting ready. What can I say, that last one usually tips most people's opinions.

Packing a tote bag full of things we need such as water, sandwiches, sunscreen etc. Striding into the room ready to go, Alec jumps onto the kitchen countertop staring me with a boyish grin.

"Finished packing?" he asks whilst swinging his legs back and forth. Its confirmed he is a child.

"Almost, now let's go, it's a two hour drive there so we shouldn't waste any time here that we could be spending at the beach." I say putting on my big peach coloured floppy sun-hat.

"Ok I'll go start the car come out when you're all packed." He responds walking out of the apartment.

Quickly remembering towels, I scurry around the house in search of them. Rummaging through his bedroom drawers my eyes catch a picture frame sat right between his piles of meticulously placed towels. In the picture, Alec is smiling next to a young boy who looked about eleven. He looked happy, truly happy with this boy.

I can't help but let a smile cross my features whilst analysing his glee. After studying the picture, for what felt like hours but was in actuality only moments, I tear my gaze away and quickly grab the towels before running out of the flat to his car.

"Lets go!" I exclaim as I get in.

"Welp..." I say trailing off looking at the stormy ocean. So, as it turns out the moment we arrive its starts lightly raining and the ocean begins churning. Aren't we lucky? Looking at the pale white sand, I state,

"Guess we are going home." Before turning and heading back to the car thinking about stupid drastic weather changes.

"Alright. I don't like the beach anyway." He replies simply. Both of us quickly getting in the car and as we do it starts raining harder. How did a predicted heat wave turn into a storm? I don't know how much more of Alec's awful voice I can take in the car. As decided earlier we would take turns driving so I start the engine and begin the two-hour journey.

As I am quietly humming along with the radio and Alec is complaining about the lack of food, neon purple lights catch my eye. Molly Dene's Diner.

Deciding on acting on my impulse I swiftly swerve the car into the parking lot. Sure, it's in the middle of nowhere, sure we could get killed and no one would find our bodies and sure, its pouring down with rain but right now my number one priority is my stomach. Its already been grumbling most of the trip home as Alec ate all of the sandwiches on the way to the beach.

"Wait, what?" Alec asks as I'm already exiting the vehicle.

"You want food, I need food." I respond dramatically before quickly dashing through the rain and into the warm homely diner with Alec following hurriedly after me. The diner is completely empty so I just pick a nice booth near the back.

Sliding into the nice red cushioned booth I let my drenched self relax back into the seat closing my eyes and listening to the soft hum of 50's music. A sweet looking older lady in a 50's style dress and a name tag saying Rosie, came over to our table promptly and politely asked for our order.
