These Old Strings

Nearer to
the shell of time
I dwell within
a deep sublime

I crest the waves
of the bar beyond
and dream of days
far past gone

There your deep
hypnotic soul
sings out strong
and in velvet tones

Once like the blind
I stumbled past
all your beauty
and broken glass

Then in one
life changing scene
you bled me red
and I touched your green

The world looked down
its elevated nose
and our emerging romance
faded then froze

Yet here I wait
in an old tinder box
to kindle the flames
of the love we lost

and if you can stand
the heat that it brings
perhaps we could cut
these old strings
