seasonal symbolism: seasons used as a symbol. For example, Spring months are associated with youth and new beginnings; Winter with death or loss and Autumn with decay. Rossetti likes this. Watch out for her doing this with the passing of the day as well in poems such as 'An Apple Gathering'.
