neeha // inspired by "the undoing of ryder burke" by clarifications

a case in progress, an untold story,
the source of sorrow for a burdened soul.
A lie, a rumor, some sadistic humor,
but the truth is yet to be told.

on the darkest night it comes to show,
where she staggers up the stairs and her speech comes too slow,
he follows her up and closes the door to the room,
guided by the fading scent of her perfume.

thoughts impure and actions wicked,
her screams are pinpricks in the thicket,
the others are laughing and screaming it's alright,
while she puts up her last fight.

from the gap through the curtains a witness can see,
but they remain silent and creep slowly,
away from the crime, away from the scene,
to avoid having to reveal what they have seen.

fear, disbelief, and shock run rampant,
reducing the truth to a mere fragment,
a victim ridiculed by her peers,
without a safe haven anywhere near.

and when push comes to shove,
she is made hopeless by the court from above,
she cries and weeps and takes her last stand,
vowing to never again trust the word of that man.
