The door of the jet opened as Bucky fiddled with his rifle, a tiniest frown on his lips. It was second nature to him by now to hold a weapon, yet at the same time he resented it. He hoped this was the last time.

"Do you remember that time we had to ride back from Rockaway beach in the back of that trunk?" Steve said out of the blue.

"Was that the time we used our train money to buy hotdogs?" Bucky felt warm at the memory. It had been a good day.

"You blew three bucks trying to win that stuffed bear for a redhead." Steve scoffed, shaking his head in amusement.

"What was her name again?" Bucky inquired.

"Delores. You called her Del." Bucky was surprised Steve would remember one girls name out of all the women he had taken out.

"Gotta be a hundred years old right now."

"So are we, pal." Steve patted his shoulder with a soft smile, before pulling away as Bucky adjusted the strap of his gun.

"...You liked the stuff bear though, didn't you? She ended up ditching it for the rich guy." Bucky mused.

"Yeah...I did." Steve admitted, making his way down into the snowy planes with Bucky.

"That shield doesn't belong to you. You don't deserve it...My father made that shield!" Bucky was heavy against his shoulder, but Steve didn't place him down like Tony expected. Instead he held him tighter around the waist, dropping the shield with a soft clang as he used his free hand to grip Bucky's flesh wrist and limped off to his exit. His body ached and his emotions were askew'd, but one thing was certain.

Tony didn't know him well enough if he thought he would ditch Bucky after all his efforts, just to keep being Captain America.  Captain America was his superhero persona, but he didn't want to be a superhero anymore if it meant he had to give up being a human being.

Captain America was dead and Steve Rogers wasn't going anywhere without Bucky Barnes.

❄️❄️❄️

Outside was freezing and Steve's legs were trembling with strain for once in so long. It would have been rewarding if not for the reason why.

A black and silver mask greeted his sights, Zemo unconscious in his arms. Steve was tempted to punch the prone man, but chose against it. Bucky needed help. They needed an escape route, and when the King looked at them, he knew he was their route.

"Please." Was all he had to say, and the King gave them a folded paper, a map.

"I have business to attend to first." He said, indicating to Zemo, who looked somewhat peaceful in his abyss.

"Thank you, your highness." Bucky's voice was scratchy, but his sincerity was prominent.

"I am done letting vengeance rule me. I am a King, who must learn to put my people first from now on. So I am sorry for my violent actions towards you."

A truce. That was what Steve had been craving. Bucky and Steve got back to their jet, starting it up and flying away from the ice below.

They could relax once they were in Wakanda.
