The Silver Moon War

Chapter 3

Silver flew with Wolf at her side. She held the chest closer to her as the ground started to give way to mountains and there was less and less snow. The air grew hotter and Silver shifted the chest in her arms uncomfortably.

She looked at ahead and saw the desert with dots of black, pink, orange and yellow. As the wing kept flying, it got hotter and the desert got closer. Finally they swooped down and landed in front of the group of dragons.

Silver recognized Queen Moonflower, a NightWing and RainWing were beside her holding spears. When the IceWings landed, the Queen of the NightWings and RainWings stepped forward.

"Hello,"she said. Her voice sounded like the soft snowflakes that fell most of the time in the Ice Kingdom."Sorry about the location, but the RainWings and NightWings don't like the cold. I hope this isn't too hot for you."

Queen Iceshine shook her head."We can stay in the mountains while you stay here."

Queen Moonflower bowed."Thank you for your understanding."She stood back up again."May we start with the news?"

Iceshine nodded."Yes, I would love to hear about it."She turned to her subjects."Would you also like to hear it?"When they all shook their heads, she continue."Okay, lets commenced." The two queens headed into a small hut and disappeared.

"Hello,"said a voice behind her that she didn't know.

Silver turned around and saw a blue and black NightWing with dark blue eyes and silver scales by them. He smiled at her and showed his teeth."Hi, I'm Blueseer."He paused and lifted her left wing and looked at her chest in front of her."You are her."

She stared at him."What makes me important? I am the most useless dragon ever." I hope he believes that, she thought.

Blueseer stepped forward and stared her directly in her eyes."You can save us!"He said.

Silver looked over her shoulder and saw Wolf talking to Shard."Um, really because I feel really unheroic."

He laughed, then put a claw to his chin."I'll have to get you onto the right path,"he muttered. He looked up, eyes shining."Have you heard about the abandoned Jade Mountain Academy?"He asked.

"Yes, and where are you going with this?"She asked.

Blueseer's face turned into a mischievous grin."Do you want to go there?"

Silver's eyes widened."Really? I've never been there, at least in person."

He looked at her."I know, we all have been there sometime in our life."

She nodded and watched as Blueseer opened his black wings and leaped into the sky, she followed him into the sky unaware of a dragon watching them leave.

They flew across the desert, and when the sun started to sink down in the sky, they landed.

"That is the most flying i've done ever,"Silver said, panting.

Blueseer came up beside her and looked around."I knew we would meet him, but I didn't think it would be this early."

Silver stared at him."Why are you so weird?"

Blueseer shrugged."Haven't you noticed? The silver scales? How NightWings can see the future and read minds again now?"When she didn't reply, he went on."I'm a seer, I can see into the future."

She stared at him, then smacked her forehead with her talon."Ug, why didn't I notice before?"

Blueseer shrugged."Because it didn't occur to you."

Silver nodded."Probably, I should also tell you my name. I'm Silver Moon, or you can call me Silver for short."

He nodded and pointed into the dark."He should be right there."He turned to Silver and smiled."You'll like him. You seem to like the slight warmth of a fire."

Silver smiled back."Okay, but can we go to sleep now? I'm tired."

Blueseer nodded."Fine, but what if you miss him."

As soon as the words left his mouth, there was a burst of flame and a SandWing appeared for a split second. Then the sound of sticks and logs being thrown down on the sand, and a burst of flame erupted again from the SandWing, and started a fire.

Blueseer laid down."Okay, now we can go to sleep."He closed his eyes and went to sleep.

Now it was only Silver and the strange SandWing. Now that she could see him, she looked him over. 

He was a pale dusty gold with golden eyes, and along his neck and wings were black diamonds. He seemed to be looking her over as well. She moved a step back, and he moved towards her.

"Who are you?"She asked, sounding a lot less scared than she was.

The SandWing took another step forward, and she could see a scar that ran across his shoulder."Who are you?"He asked. 

Silver swallowed hard and lifted her chin."I am an IceWing princess, and you are..."

"A SandWing,"he said,"I wanted your name."He growled, looking her in the eye.

Silver glared at him."My name is Silver Moon, what is yours?"

The SandWing nodded."My name is Diamondback."

Silver stared at him. Why was he here? Why did Blueseer want me to meet him? Where did he come from? Why did he-

"Why are you here, I thought all of the IceWings were either in the Ice Kingdom or in Sanctuary,"Diamondback asked, bringing her back to the world.

"Well, my mom is having a meeting with Queen Moonflower by the edge of the desert and some IceWings came,"she replied.

Diamondback stared at her."You don't know, do you?"

Silver looked at him."Know what?"

He looked at Blueseer."I don't think I should say any-"

"Tell me,"she growled, clutching a talonful of sand.

Diamondback glanced at her."What are you going to do? Throw sand at me?"

Silver smiled."Do you want to find out?"

He shook his head and backed away."Nope, I'm fine."He looked at the sand in her claws."I was saying that you don't know about the war, the Silver Moon War."

Silver dropped the sand."The Silver Moon War?"She looked t her claws, then up at Diamondback."Was I the cause?"

Diamondback shook his head."No, royals of three tribes were murdered and that is what started it."

"Can you tell me who is on who's side?"She asked, sitting down.

Diamondback sat down in front of her."The SkyWings and SeaWings are on one side because they think that the SandWings or MudWings killed their past queens. The SandWings and MudWings are on one side, and the NightWings, RainWings, and IceWings are not involved."

Silver nodded and looked at the night sky. Two of the three moons were full and the stars shone like little diamonds in the heavens."Do you want to join Blueseer and I on our trip to Jade Mountain?"She asked, looking back at Diamondback.

"Sure,"he said, laying down."Do you mind if the fire doesn't go out until morning?"

Silver shook her head."I don't mind, I don't want you two to freeze."

Diamondback nodded, and closed his eyes. Silver watched as his breathing slowed and he fell into a deep sleep. She took one look at the sky and closed her eyes.
