Evan's knee bounced up and down impatiently as he watched the clock tick slowly. Today was the day he was supposed to meet Jonathan and he couldn't wait. He wanted the class to be over.

The bell first ally rang and Evan was out the door before anyone even got out of their seats. Tyler, Brian and Lui looked at each other before packing up and following Evan out.

He was rushing to get his stuff out of his locker before heading out.

"Evan! Slow down, what's with the rush?" Tyler shouted, placing a hand on his shoulder.

"Sorry, I can't talk right now." Evan shrugged off the hand.

"Your rushing like your in a hurry." He folded his arms.

"Look. I don't have time to talk right now, but I'll talk to you tonight." Evan waved as he took off down the hallway, leaving a stunned Tyler behind.

Lui and Brian stood next to Tyler, they heard the conversation.

"Do you think he has a girlfriend?" Lui asked.

"No, this is different." Tyler said.

______________

Jonathan was waiting patiently on the rock in their hidden place. He was excited to see Evan again.

"Sorry I'm late!" Evan's voice sounded. Jonathan looked up to see Evan making his way down the rock to sit beside him.

"Your not that late." Jonathan smiled.

Evan rubbed the back of his neck as he dangled his feet in the water.

"Um, I was wondering, what's it like under the water?"

"Like living under water?"

"Yeah." He nodded.

"Well, it's blue and very vast, but it's lonely. I mean sure it's beautiful with coral reefs and vibrant fish. But as soon as you leave the castle and venture out, the atmosphere changes into something totally different. And it's scary."

"Castle?" Evan raised a brow.

"That's where we live. It's not to far from here. Just a short swim out there and a long dive down and you find it. But that's where I was raised."

"Oh, so why come here? Two the surface I mean."

"Because. I wanted to see something new. Something different other then a deep blue world. I wanted to meet new people and experience new things. And not have the feeling of being trapped."

Evan stared solemnly at his feet. He opened his mouth and closed it several times. He wanted to take Jonathan out to see his world, even just for a little while it would be ok. But he didn't even know how. It's not like you can hide a blue tail mermaid without drawing some kind of attention. Maybe if there was a way to make him human then maybe he could do it?

"What if . . . What if you had legs?" Evan asked.

Jonathan turned towards him wide eyed.

"Then maybe. I could take you out?" He asked nervously.

"Evan your a genius!" Jonathan exclaimed, smiling widely.

"I am?" He blinked, confused.

"Yeah I think there's a spell that can turn me human for a short while." He smiled.

Evan beamed at the idea. "Really? That's great!" He threw his arms around Jonathan without thinking.

Jonathan, a little flustered, returned the hug nodding. "Yeah, it is."

____________

"ARE YOU INSANE!" Craig bellowed, steam practically blowing out of his ears as he lectured Jonathan. Jonathan had asked Brock about the spell to which he gave it to him. "You do realise that is a forbidden spell right? If we are found out, who knows what'll happen! We'll be fish food? Turned into sea foam."

"relax Craig, no one's going to know since we won't tell them." Jonathan tried his best to ease Craig's mind but it seemed to make it worse.

"But what if they find out? What if we get caught? What if you don't turn back into a merman?"

"Chill dude, it's ok. I'll be back here in no time."

"Please don't say that, because I know something bad will happen."

"I'll be fine," with that, he snuk out the window. He avoided detection and slipped out of the kingdom. He needed to collect a few things before he could turn human. First on his list was a special type of coral called luminescent coral, it's a type of coral that glows in the moon light and is found in a cave just off shore. Second was a type of seaweed found near the cave, two strands and he moved on. Next was a magenta clam shell. Lastly, his own scale. This is the most important part because it would mean he could transform back if needed. All the items were placed in a huge stone bowl.

He took a deep breath, "Here goes nothing."

He cast the spell. A bright light erupted from the bowl, eloping his being. Tingles spread through his body, running from finger tips to fins. It felt like he was floating.

He felt peace.
