"Home." Toby said, with a kind smile as he pulled out of the carpark and into the quiet, dark streets.
Home? He was taking me to his house? How should I feel about this?!
He held my hand and steered with the other effortlessly. Toby tried to comfort me but, I was going to meet his family and I was pretty sure it was too late to visit and they wouldn't like a random girl to wake them all up.
"Don't you think it's a little late for me to meet your family?" I asked, turning my head to face the window so that he didn't see the scared look on my face.
"It's never too late." He replied, turning his head to see I wasn't looking at him. I appreciated his optimism but there was no way this was going to go well."Trust me, you'll be fine. My family isn't a massive tree or anything. Plus, if it makes you feel any better, some of them will be out." He shrugged and rubbed his finger on my hand.
Out? At this time?! Was he nuts?! It must be at least midnight and I'm pretty sure his mum and dad won't be out clubbing.
I peered over at the dashboard and realised it was only half past eleven. Still that's pretty late for a family introduction don't you think?!
Toby started to laugh and I knew he was doing that wierd know-what-you're-thinking thing. I couldn't understand any of it!
I just sat in silence and waited for what was to become the most embarrassing moment in my life.
Toby drove silently through the streets until he finally came to a stop, outside a little cottage.
This is his house? It's so cute! No wonder he said his family wasn't a massive tree. At least it looked like mine so I didn't feel as tense as I was before.
I got out the car and so did Toby as I stared at his cottage.
"Your cottage is just like mine!" I remarked. Toby just turned around and walked up to me. He started to laugh. It was so sweet but confusing. He grabbed my shoulders and slowly turned me around to face the most incredible, stone mansion I had ever seen. It had white pillars, 2 at each side and you entered by double doors. I don't know how I didn't notice it before. I guess I must have just seen the black gate and drive way, not looking at the giant mansion that filled the grass and just to make it look even better than it already was, they had a fountain.He. Lives. In. A. Mansion.
What?!
My heart started to speed up as I realised that his family must be rich. What if they don't like me? I live in a cottage and they live in a mansion. Toby lives in mansion. I live in a cottage with my mum.
What were they going to think of me? I started to breathe faster than normal and I couldn't take it, I had to go home! I quickly tried to open the door to the car, but it wouldn't open.
He had locked it."Let me in, unlock the car." I demanded, glancing back at him and then at the car.
"You're going to be fine. I will be with you the whole time. My family are not what you think." He replied, walking up to me and gently placing his hands at both sides of my head, to get me to calm down.'My family are not what you think.' Yeah that's because they're weird creatures with strength and speed that can break me in two!!
Toby picked me up by my legs and carried me as if we were getting married. He didn't want me to be scared but I couldn't help it! I'm sure he would be scared if I was a monster who wanted him to meet my monster family. Monster? That's such a harsh term. I didn't know what he was but he definitely wasn't a monster. He was still the same guy just with special abilities, I guess.
I tried to kick out of his grip but I couldn't. Curse this super strength thing!
As we were getting closer to the door I stopped fidgeting because I knew it wouldn't look good if I looked like I didn't want to meet them. He opened the door and stepped inside with me cuddled up like a frightened baby. He just smiled and placed me down on the dark, wooden floor. He shut the door and stood in front of it, not letting me get past and make a run for it.
I couldn't believe what I was looking at. The inside of the mansion was just as pretty as the outside. As soon as you walked in there was a grand staircase and to your left was the biggest kitchen I had ever seen. He lead me to it and let me look around for a bit.
The kitchen was modern and had a rectangular, long table with ten seats! (Four seats at each side and two for the heads.) Plus it had massive gaps for each person.
How was it possible for him to have a small family when his house suited 50 people?!
He looked at my dazzled expression and began to laugh once again. My face started to go bright red, I could feel the heat radiating off my skin. He stepped towards me and whispered "Are you ready to meet them?" I nodded and quietly breathed in and out to calm me down. Then he shouted "I have someone I want you all to meet!" He held my hand and gently squeezed it.
I heard footsteps coming down the grand stairs to the right of me. It sounded as if there were only two people that heard him. Maybe that was just the start. More might appear soon. I started to shuffle my feet to keep me busy and make me stop thinking too much about it.
At first I saw a girl, about the same age as me. She had long, blonde hair, a white top with a triangular necklace, some blue jeans and black converse shoes. She gave me a warm smile just like Toby's and held her hand out to me.
"I'm Emma." She said as I shook her hand. I couldn't stop staring at her eyes, they were so strange. They looked grey but when you looked even closer you could tell they were in fact silver. Is there a such thing as silver eyes?
A smile grew on her face and she stared down at my broken arm that was now held together by a sling. She moved her eyes from my broken arm to Toby and her face turned from being happy to meet me, to being confused.
"Let me guess, Ashley?" She spoke, crossing her arms and smiling because she knew she was right. Toby nodded and Emma rolled her eyes.
"You must have really pissed her off." She joked. Toby started to laugh and I let out a small giggle.
"Well, as you know perfectly sister, it doesn't take a lot for Ashley to lose her temper." He smirked at Emma.
"What's that supposed to mean? Hm?" She asked, raising her eyebrow and smiling.
"I think you know." He replied quickly, nodding to the left of him, to try and point something out. I turned to look at what he meant when I saw a window that was cracked all the way down to the bottom. It looked like if I tapped it, it would shatter into a million pieces.
I couldn't help but think it actually kind of looked pretty.Emma punched Toby in the arm in a playful matter. He didn't even flinch.
"Well, you're no one to talk." She replied, lifting up his t-shirt to reveal a scar going down the side of his body, near his hip.I stood completely frozen as I stared at it. Ashley did this? Why was he still dating her?! She has a crazy temper, she has scarred him because of it AND she has smashed his window in his house! I would have dumped her ages ago!
Emma burst out laughing, she was in utter histerics and almost crying. I focused my attention on her and so did Toby as he lowered his top back down quickly. Toby looked just as confused as I did. We had no idea what was going on and to be honest I found it hilarious.
We both stood there for a few more seconds in silence watching her laugh at her own private joke.
"You don't realise, do you?" She finally said. I knew she was talking to me and tried to figure out what she meant.Just then I heard a slam on a door I didn't realise was behind me. There stood someone I didn't think I was going to see....
Ashley's face was absolutely mortified when she saw me.
"This is Ashley, Toby's SISTER." Emma explained, waiting for the most, utter, stupid, facial expression that was going to appear on my face....
