"I-I'm a what?!" At this moment my mind was full of things about his family, and now he was telling me that tomorrow, I will become a panther morpher?!? What the heck is that?!!
Why did the angel choose me?! Me of all people! I can't protect vampires, did you see how Ashley snapped my arm in two?!"Tomorrow, your senses will increase rapidly and at the time of your birthday, you will turn." Toby explained.
"So basically, I turn into a panther forever?!" I shouted at the top of my lungs. The door flung open and Ashley was standing there, with her arms crossed.
"Oh shut up already! You will be able to control the change just like a werewolf, but as a panther." Ashley spoke, walking towards me and Toby.
Toby nodded in response and faced me.
"Why didn't you tell me this before?!" I raised my voice slightly, but it died from Ashley's eyes."Because you were still getting your head around vampires. I didn't want to freak you out." Toby replied, grabbing my hand and placing it in his.
"Well, consider me freaked out!" I said, tossing my arms in the air and collapsing on the bed. Toby frowned and looked up at Ashley.
"Don't look at me! I'm not going to make her happy." She argued, gliding out the door quickly, leaving him to deal with me.I groaned and turned over on my stomach. Toby's blue, glowing eyes lingered on me.
"It's fine. You will be exactly the same just-"
"I just turn into a cat, no problem." I interrupted, sarcastically.
"It's not like that, Annabel. You will still be human but you'll have the ability to turn into a panther if you want to. You will be fast and strong, so strong that you will be able to take down a vampire or werewolf. Not only that but you were born the protector, born a panther. It just comes out on your birthday. You are supposed to be our protector and you will be stronger than any of us in your panther form. You can still turn back human whenever you want, it will be your choice." Toby said, his eyes searched my face cautiously, he didn't want to find any fear, worry, doubt or disagreement. I turned to him and sat up again, staring him right in the eye."Does it hurt?" I asked, fear was all over my face and he knew it.
"What?" He questioned, raising an eyebrow and tilting his head slightly.
"Does it hurt to change? " I asked again.
"No, it doesn't." He answered, confidently. I looked in his eyes and I knew he was telling the truth.
"Also, if you think about it, some powers you have already mastered." He said with a cute wink.
"Like what?" I laughed, smiling back at him.
"How did you find me in the janitor's closet?" The question quickly flew out of his mouth and hit me right in the face.I didn't see that one coming! The closet! He died!! What was that all about?!
I thought about how to answer but I couldn't put it into words. It was, complicated. I couldn't explain it.
"Erm, I guess I just knew?" I said confused.
"You found me because you are the protector. When you're the protector you share a bond with my family. You can always find us, and when you're in your panther form you can hear us, see us in long distances, pick up our scent, tell whether someone is supernatural or not AND know what they are exactly." He explained, I nodded and looked down shyly. He knew I didn't think I was good enough to fight vampires."Since this is the last day before you change for the first time, I thought you might want to do some sparring? Get you learning how to fight, so that you already know how to later. My siblings and I would love to throw you around a bit." He joked, smirking at me.
"You wish!" I exclaimed, throwing the other pillow, aiming for his head, but missing and hitting the wardrobe behind him.
"Even your throwing of pillows is sloppy." He added, gathering the pillows and placing them back on the bed neatly.
"Fine then, I'll do it... but only if you promise afterwards we can go out tonight, some place of my choice." I said, smiling at him and battering my eye lids.
"Fine." He said grinning and walking out the door.
"You comin'?" He asked, turning around to face me while still walking backwards. I dragged myself off the comfy bed and walked downstairs with him.
