I punched him.
“You dickhead. You think this is funny?” I asked angrily, feeling my cheeks heat up in embarrassment.
“I-what?” he asked, grabbing his chest where I’d punched him “Hey, what? I was-stop that!“ he cried in shock trying to block my blows as I continued to punch him.
“You think it’s funny to make fun of girls? Jerk!” I slapped him once more upside the head before turning away, walking briskly back around my house, glad that the darkness hid my burning face.
“Wait! Ella!” Jayden cried when I shot him a disgusted look over my shoulder. He started to run over, an almost cutely confused look on his face. Suddenly the sound of a screen door slapping against wood echoed through the silent night.
“JAYDEN ASHFIELD! YOU’D BETTER GET BACK HERE, RIGHT NOW” I covered a smirk as I recognised Jayden and Lachlan’s mum’s stern voice.
Jayden’s eyes widened and he swore before he shot me one final desperate look and disappeared back down the street. I let out a low chuckle before climbing the tree back up into my room.
“What was all that shouting?” asked Shae curiously as she stepped out of the bathroom, thankfully fully clothed.
“Just the neighbours” I said hiding a grin before slipping into the bathroom after her, my pajamas bundled in my hands.
Apparently Shae had freezing cold showers. As I found out when I turned the shower on only to have the ice-cold water bursting out make me almost shit my pants. Needless to say, Shae found it hilarious and wouldn’t stop laughing until she fell asleep sometime around midnight.
I on the other hand, couldn’t sleep. My mind kept replaying the little scene with Jayden over and over, not to mention the fact that I couldn’t stop shivering from my ice cold shower.
He’d asked me on a date?! And I’d punched him. I mentally face palmed. Dammit Shantelle! You had such a good opportunity and you punched him. I groaned and rolled over, burying my face into my pillows. Hopefully I’ll wake up and find that I’d been delirious and it had never taken place…

Jayden hadn’t forgotten. In fact as soon as he’d spotted me in the hall after the warning bell, he’d made a bee line straight for me, a determined look on his face. I gulped and quickly turned, ushering Shae into the classroom and trying to follow her. I’d almost made it through but felt a large hand enclose my upper arm and yank me back out and around the corner. I let out a weird strangled sound as he dragged me past the late stragglers and into the empty dead end locker corridor. I gulped, turning to face him.
“What happened to your face?” I blurted, catching sight of a slightly yellowish tinge on his cheekbone.
“You happened. You punched me last night!” he said with a scowl, dark eyes holding a hint of amusement “Besides, it’s not like you can talk. What happened to your face?” he asked, leaning in for a closer inspection. I felt my breath hitch at his close proximity before I turned my face to the side, willing myself not to blush
“I-I fell” I said quickly, my voice coming out higher than normal. As I’d observed this morning, Shae’s punch in the face during yesterday’s wrestling match had caused the area just above my right eye to turn purple. I’d hastily added some purple eye shadow to the other eye in the hopes of hiding it. Obviously, it hadn’t done much.
“You’re such a bad liar” Jayden said shaking his head with a smile “Back to my previous point. I think you owe me”
“Owe you?” I asked with a suspicious glare
