*Aubree's POV*

Willow waddles over to me, her eyes bugged and looking at me expectantly.

"What is it, baby?"

She almost physically vibrates as I realize her hands are behind her back. I reach out for her hands, but she jumps back and shakes her head.

"Watcha hiding, princess?"

"I made something for you." Willow reveals a piece of paper turned away from me. "Mommy, look!"

She turns the paper so I can see. She drew two stick figures, a tall girl with glasses and a shorter girl with a tiara on her head. There are colorful hearts surrounding the girls. My eyes light up and I gently take the paper from her, studying it crucially. I make a show of scrunching my eyebrows.

"What's wrong? Do you not wike it?" Willow pouts and I grab her hands, kissing her knuckles.

"Of course I do, princess. It's beautiful. You just forgot one little thing!"

She rips the paper from my hands and stares at it with wide eyes.

"You only have one shoe on," I point out, pointing at the scribbly shoe on one foot and the other bare foot with three toes.

She smacks her forehead and sighs in exasperation. "Oh my goshes, Mommy, I did that on purpose. Nobody got time for both shoes."

I laugh at her and she grins. I open my arms and she runs into them, wrapping her arms around my neck super tight. I rub her back and she giggles into my neck.

"I love your cuddles, Mommy."

We lay there for a little while and Willow's heart rate starts to even out. I pry her drawing from her fingers so she doesn't rip it and place it on the nightstand next to us. She senses my absent touch and rustles around, reaching blindly for my hand. When she finds it and snakes it around her back again, her furrowed eyebrows relax and she sighs into her sleep. I grin and roll my eyes, leaning back onto the pillow behind me.

I let her sleep for a while before I gently slide out from underneath her, replacing myself with her stuffed hippo, Knight. I tip-toe into the kitchen, preparing to make dinner.

Since Willow is in her little headspace, I decide to make some mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, and waffle French fries for dinner. I turn on the radio to listen to while I'm making her food, singing along quietly under my breath.

When I'm almost done, I hear a whimper and a panicked "Mommy!" come from the bedroom.

"I'm in the kitchen, princess!" I call back, putting down the spoon I was using to stir the mac and cheese.

I can hear the tap tap tap of her feet before I see her run into the kitchen, slamming into me with her arms out.

"I thought I lost you, Mommy," she murmurs, squeezing me and trembling. I hold her tightly and kiss the top of her messy hair.

"I would never leave. I'm just making dinner. You know what I'm making for you, princess?"

"I no know." She looks at the stove and hops over to the oven, trying to look through the distorted glass. She gasps and runs over to the stove and stretches onto her tip-toes to see the mac and cheese boiling in the saucepan. She reaches her fingers out to touch it.

"No, baby, don't touch-!" I start, but too late; Willow burns herself on the hot metal, recoiling her hurt hand into her chest and starting to cry.

I rush over to her and bring her into my arms, shushing her and running my fingers through her hair.

"Shh, baby, it's okay. It just scared you is all, you're okay. Lemme see," I murmur, trying to look at her injured finger.
