The duo with brown hair leant against the mahogany railing. The stars and half-moon illuminating the midnight sky. It wasn't the first time the two had done this, they'd spent every night outside this summer. While most nights where humid, this night was brisk and caused shivers to go down the shorter ones' back.

"You're cold." The taller one, Remus, points out.

Mare, the shorter one, laughs.

"Not really." She shrugs, turning her head and looking up at Remus, then immediately looks away. Not wanting to look at him for long.

They don't speak again for awhile. Standing peacefully, listening to the water run down the stream not far away from the house. The noise was refreshing, stimulating even. The wind blew in different directions, whipping the two's hair.

The two had just finished Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry three weeks before. It was their last night of peace before the rest of the Marauders, along with Lily Evans and Marlene McKinnon would be enjoying a stay at the Lupin-Selwyn house.

Mare yawns, watching to see if Remus would do the same. Yawning is contagious, after all. He does the same, causing Mare to chuckle. Remus takes his forearms off the railing, turning to completely face Mare. She looks straight ahead, not wanting to look at Remus.

There was tension, a lot of it. The two hadn't been on the best of terms for the past two months and it had finally come on full swing now that they were alone, not having anyone watching them majority of the time. They could let it all out. Of course, they had fought multiple times, more often than not.

"I'm sorry, okay?" Remus says softly, "for the way I reacted. For shouting at you, slamming that door when you needed me the most. I'm sorry."

"It's fine, Remus." Mare answers, attempting to hide the coldness in her tone as she continues to look off into the woods.

"Then why won't you look at me?"

Mare takes her forearms off the railing finally, Remus notes that her hands are shaking as they drop to her sides. She slowly turns to face Remus. Her head raises, finally looking Remus in the eyes.

"I'm looking." She snaps, bringing out all the bitterness this time, not caring about his feelings.

"Mare.....I'm so sorry. I'm so, so sorry." He repeats filled with emotion.

"I know you are. You've said it four times now." Mare remarks, then says "plus the two hundred twenty-six times you have over the past two months."

"You've been counting?" Asks Remus, eyebrows raising.

"Of course I have," she says softly, her once livid eyes were now soft and kind. "It's a fight. I'm not going to drop my habits with you because of it."

Remus's heart flutters, his throat getting caught in a lump, her habits definitely hadn't stopped. He was worried they might have over the past bit. She still loved him, or so he was hoping. He certainly loves her and he hoped it would never change.

They were perfect for each other, despite the differences the two had. While Remus loved reading all the time, it was uncommon to see Mare with a book in her hands unless it was a Defence Against the Dark Arts textbook. Remus tried to keep his hair tidy, Mare let her hair do whatever it felt like and was nearly always a mess of some sort. Their likenesses were simple, they shared some of the same personality traits and both had a sincere smile that could light an entire village.
