Life outside was basically like watching an old war movie. Walking throught the streets was like walking through a war zone. Corpses littered the streets, discarded weapons left lying around. The mess outside is devestating but it's nothing new. The satly smeel of blood lingers and my boots spalsh through gallons of the stuff as I walk. And ironically, there haven't been any government announcements since this started over a year ago. Bastards, I smirk.
"Hey you! Turn around, will you? I wanna see your face when I kill you!" I freeze, my breath caught in my throat, expecting the worse when I turn around. Instead, there's a kid, around my age. His blonde hair is smeared with blood and his forehead is covered in dirt.
"Wanna go? I'll fight you, you dirty little snob! Where you running off to? You have a decision to make right here! Stay and fight or go off and join your little chipped government. Better hope you die fighting. Anything's better then living in this damned world," he screams. He speaks the truth.
I figure he must be a run away, just like me. He's against those who have Turned but he must think I'm one of them. And I know, he won't hesitant to kill me. So I run. I run faster then I've ever run before. My feet thump against the ground and my heart thumps against my chest. I'm running but not from the boy anymore. He's long gone. I'm running from this nightmare, but it seem like I can never outrun it.
When I feel like I'm far enought, I stop. I walk briskly to regain my breath and stop the dizziness. I make it to the edge of the forest in hours. I can tell by the setting sun. For the first time in months, I feel calm. The forest. It brings a piece of my dad back to me.
I walk into the forest. Immediantly. sound flushes the clearing. Birds whistle softly and sweetly, the wind rustles the treetops and bends the grass to the south, and the wood peckers hammer away. My foot falls land so softly, not a living soul can hear them. My dad was never like that though. Despite how well he knew the different types of trees and birds, he lumbered though the forest like an elephant. The thought of him brings a smile to my face.
I walk downhill, following the path of water rushing down the hill. After rain, water always gathers at the lowest point. Soon, I find that point. My water source. I makes camp here tonight. I sit down and stroke the smooth surface of a shiny, black tock sitting on the side of the river bank. Why am I here? Did I have a plan? Can I survive here? Dad taught me the different types of berries, but berries will only keep me alive for so long. I had no clue how to hunt or how to use my sword properly. What if those who Turned find me here? They'll kill me for sure. They've always despised those who were "stupider" then them, even more then those with the same intelligence. I think those people are my worse predators. I will need to know how to kill them. Either that, or I better be prepared to die.
I figure I should set up a training place, to see if I can work a sword. I find a spot of soft-barked trees and practice on them. I pretend they're crazy-ass micro-chipped people who wanted nothing more then to kill me. I wip and slice aways at the tress.
Never did I get such a rush. The sword felt balanced and perfect in my hands. As cheesy as it sounds, I feel like I was destined to use it.
"Nice. Now if you could kill something other then trees." said a sarcastic voice from the shadows.
I was startled. Still in the zone from my practice, I fly back and position myself next to a gnarled tree. I hear movement and without thinking, I thrust forward my sword. It hits flesh.
Fifth chapter here! Feedback is greatly appeciated. I feel like it's horrible and I'm not sure what to do to fix it. The reads went from 21 on the first chapter to 7 on the others and I feel like people read the first chapter, hate it, and that's why they don't read on. Ugh, don't know what to do. Suggestions please :)
