Mephisto's blood ran cold, eyes widening and his pupils actually dilating as he was totally caught of course the only thing that came from him was a thought. a single thought that expressed absolutely everything he was feeling.

'Shit...'

A name was a powerful thing, it's the reason Mephisto chose the name instead of using his real name for everything he did  in this world. Everyone has a name, their true name and the name they went by a nickname if you will or a second name. Though not everyone knew the significance of this just a few who delved deep into the lines of magic of all kinds. Names can be used in spells, curses, incantations and more to inflect harm or help someone or in the case of the demon kings. If they swear on their name it's like a binding contract. a binding contract they cant break from until  the contents of that contract is fulfilled. 

The expression that was a mix of shock, fear and confusion quickly faded from his face as fast as it came, he fought back to getting his calm and amused composure but that didn't make a difference as once Rin saw the change in Mephisto he knew he was on the right track. he was pouncing.

 Mephisto cleared in throat and moved his hands from under his chin and instead clasped them in front of himself as he calmly answered "And how exactly do you know about that swear little brother?" he asked, unconsciously a sense of bitterness left his lips along with his words seeping into his tone. though has you ever heard of the phrase. Curiosity killed the cat? Even though Mephisto was bitter about this revelation he still thought of his brother to be the stupid fool he was and he was growing curious wanting to know where this would lead. "as well as knowing my title as a demon king?" As he spoke his mind also went to smaller thoughts, 'if Rin knew about this who told him? Where did he get this information? how does Rin now this and how much does he know?' He thought 'if he knows more that he lets on then this could put a wound in my plans...or worse'

Rin wanted to smirk or better yet laugh in the man's face but he knew he had to keep calm, ne new he had to keep his composure, a man doesn't just lay on his cards for all to see right? you gotta play the long grueling game of patience "I did a little reading here and there you know, found some books, found some information, connected a few dots but anyways back to my question well you swear or not Mephisto?" he asked, showing a little more movement in his stature but lightly tapping his foot on the ground, his head slowly tilting to the side allowing some of his hair to fall just lightly over his eyes. 

Mephisto let out a silent sigh, he could pick up on the game already, this was a long game, this was deep, deeper than he thought he knew, knowing his own cards but for the first time no knowing Rin's as the information he had given him was not as satisfying in the slightest he knew that he better play along with this but making a swear like this could end badly if he lied or at least tried to lie but he gave in to his cat like curiosity and nodded" Very well the Rin, I, Samuael the demon king of time hereby swear on my title and on my father's title Satan king of Gahenna that I will answer every question you ask me truthfully." The lights flickered and blue flames appeared for a few seconds before disappearing, it was done, now Mephisto has to tell the truth no matter what it is. he didn't even think about the significance of his wording he just wanted to get it over with. 

"Excellent..." Rin finally allowed his smile to grow, and grow it did, he caught onto what Mephisto had said and for a moment Mephisto could catch the mischievous cat like grin that came from Rin before it shrunk but into a more calmer more satisfied smile. "So  now just to make sure it's active I'll ask a starter question," he quipped, "My question is very simple, I'm sure it wont pain you too much to answer it.  Is Satan really as evil as the Vatican perceives him to be?" he asked.
