I opened my eyes slowly and looked around my head pounded and all the light from the windows made it hurt more. I closed my eyes and sighed quietly. I opened my eyes slowly, the light didn't seem to bother me as much but it still hurt. As my eyes opened fully I started taking mental notes of all my injuries, My head- Aching, my right hand- burning, my ribs - on fire. generally I felt as though I had been set on fire and dragged through a dessert mountain - and had hit every rock. I closed my eyes again hoping to fall asleep and fall away from all my pain. sadly my thoughts kept tiptoeing away to when I had lost control.

The snake writhed on the water it's wings beating wildly, Branwynn and Oracle were standing next to me. 'let me help' he whispered in my head I shook my head ever so slightly. I was pretty sure I knew what it was Jormungand. The world serpent. right? I didn't know, but he couldn't be killed. I struggled with my thoughts 'please, you need it. Let Me Help' I tried to think but I couldn't. "No, I think I know who it is and he can't be killed, even so I think I can drive him away" I said quickly, without thinking "go ahead" I thought as I ran to the edge I dove over as a burning sensation rippled through my chest. Then everything went black until I opened my eyes on a boat. I waved weakly at Oracle and Branwynn then slipped into darkness again.

I felt as if a heavy blanket was pulled off of my head as I awoke to the burning pains of my injuries. I kept my eyes shut and sighed. I froze as I heard footsteps in the hall. The door opened and two sets of footsteps entered.

"how's she doing?" asked a boys voice-It was Carter's.

"She'll be fine, she definitely banged up and the magic she used almost burned up her essence but it won't kill her" that was a girls voice- I couldn't place it. I stayed as still as possible hoping they would leave.

"she should wake soon" said the other voice "are you sure you want to watch her? you also need rest" I silently begged any god to make Carter leave but he didn't answer. I heard a chair scrape across the floor and someone sit down in it.

"Sadie asked me to watch her. I owe her one" said Carter wearily. I heard someone leave and softly close the door behind them. I waited nervously my head pounding. I wanted to find some aspirin or something but with Carter there I couldn't move without him knowing I was awake which would lead to bad questions. I stayed still for at least another thirty minutes. I begged for something top happen. Suddenly I noticed something was different in the room. I mean something sounded different. Carter's breathing had slowed. I opened my eyes a fraction of an inch and looked at Carter his head was resting on his chest. I sat up and climbed out of the cot. I started towards the door. as I reached it I heard a voice behind me

"well, good morning to you too" I turned to find carter sitting up a cheeky grin on his face.
