"Mum! I need to go out...." I shout down the hall as I reach for my converse.

"Vee, Where are you going? I don't want you walking the streets alone at tonight... It isn't - "

"Yes! Mum I know 'Be safe. Be seen.' Don't worry I am just heading over to Nikita's house. I might stay the night. Okay?"

"I guess. Make sure it is fine with Alexis. Make sure you wear a jacket, It's cold outside." She shouts down the hall as she is feeding Sophia peaches again. I throw my showerproof jacket into my Jansport along with a torch and $5 change from ordering my lunch. Rushing out the door in my semi-short denim shorts and thick knitted sweater that my Great Nana knitted me, I suddenly am smacked in the face by the 10.00pm winter air. Bitter and everlasting. Thoughts about the stupid bullies at school and Nikita's jerk of ex-boyfriend and his harrassment. Is that what she has called me here for? To tell me she has had enough? I am snapped back into reality partially because of the intense winter breeeze and because my phone is blasting with alerts.

Bleep! Bleep! An alert flashes up on my phone.... Its from Nikita.

Vee! I need you urgently meet me by the Post Office.

Post Office? Why the Post Office? A quick detour and I am standing at the front entrance to the Post Office. I draw the thin black flashlight out of my bag and a huge beam of light reaches out into the darkness like a giant hand.

Nik? Where are you? Nikita? I whisper so that the nearby security guard can't hear me. He was strong and bulky as he stood guard of the the undelivered letters. Droplets of dew sprinkled his heavy leather boots and his broad shoulders.

"Psst! Psst! Vee.... Over here"

I whip around to see tears streaming down Nikita's face that is hidden behind the big oak tree. Oh please be alright I say to myself. I dash over to her, I hear the loose change rattling around in my bag. My torch beam wraps around her shocked face. She looks like a possum in a pair of headlights. I throw my backpack against the big oak tree and I crouch down next to her. Her eyes are fixed on the barred metal doors of the Post Office.

"Nikita! What is wrong? Why did you call me over? I was just on the way to your hou-"

"Shhh!" She cuts me off. Something is wrong. She brings her cold fingers up towards her frozen blue lips and I hear the whistle of the air escaping her lips.

"What?" I am slightly confused and a tad frightened.

"We need to break in..." Nikita is quiet now. She moves her gaze onto my eyes. Her facial expressions are blank, She is an empty canvas.

Break in? Break in to a Post Office... What? The blade and now this! What isn't she telling me! We are best friends...
