I got out of the hospital a few days later when they were I sure I didn't have any serious injuries or amnesia. Blaine didn't talk to me again since that day, and honestly it kind of bothered me. I had been nothing but nice to him well you know, except for leaving him passed out on the side of the road with no gas in his car. But really, a guy has to let these things go.
"Where are you going?" Caleb asked me as I reached for the handle on our front door. I nearly jumped from the sound of his voice and I turned only to see him sitting on the couch, raising an eyebrow at me.
I shook my head, acting innocent. Well, trying to, anyway. "No where."
"Try that again, and this time, make it more believable." I rolled my eyes and realized I did not have to answer to him so I turnied back to the door, about to leave.
"Carter, what happened to us?"
I was really confused by his sudden question and turned around to face him yet again only to see a sad expression now covering his face.
"What?"
He shrugged, "We used to be close. We would hang out together all the time. Now...we hardly speak. You go off by yourself all the time. What's happened?" I looked at his sad face with so much guilt. It was true, Caleb and I used to be closer when we were younger. But the ghosts began to pester me more, so when I realized I had to help them, I had to slowly let go of my brother.
But I did not want to talk about this now. "I have to go," was all I said as I opened the door, finally making my way outside. It felt good when the cold air touched my face.
"Where are you going?" I groaned in annoyance as I was was just leaving the property when I heard my father's voice.
"Does every person on this freaking planet wanna know where I am going today?"
I didn't even bother to stop walking, knowing he would follow me. "Hm, I don't think everyone wants to know," He said, letting a chuckle escape as he caught sight of my annoyed expression.
"You really are my brother's father." I mumbled, thinking of Carter.
"I'm your father too, Carter. Keep that in mind. But really, where are you going?"
I sighed. "If you must know, I am going to meet someone the new spirit has told me to visit." Yes, my father new all about me being able to see ghosts and whatnot. He didn't believe me at first, but a few things happened and suddenly he believed me. It felt good to know my dad didn't think I was crazy. Every girl's dream.
"Honey, this is dangerous." He said, getting his "parental voice" on.
"Dad, this is not dangerous!"
"Yes it is! You don't even know who this person is. They could be wanting to murder you for all you know."
I rolled my eyes at my dad's over active imagination. "They are not going to murder me."
"Well I'm coming with you."
"No, you're not."
He remained silent as we walked down the street. The night before Miranda gave me the address to a man who she said was a friend of hers. She knew he was grieving and she wanted me to visit him and tell him she was okay. You know, the usual.
"Why did you end up in the hospital, Carter?" My dad's voice spoke again suddenly.
I bit my lip, not looking at him, not wanting to go into this. "You already know. I tripped in the shower, hit my head on the wall, almost drowned. No biggee."
