chapter one \\ New Year, New Start:
Warmness and comfort was hugging me tightly and telling me to not get up from my deep sleep but the voice of my Mother did not let me make a promise.
"Rise and shine, Estelle," the person who did not let me make a promise to my blankets shouted. Mum entered my room and exposed the bright sunlight onto me by opening the blinds.
I groaned into my pillow, pulling the blankets over my head, "I'm trying to sleep over here," my answer being muffled by the blankets. I could feel my body heating up from my breathing so I peeled the blankets off my head and to be greeted by the sunny, Monday morning.
Mum rambled on saying that if I didn't wake up now, I would be late for my first day of senior year. It took every part of my morning energy to sit up and tell her that I was already awake due to her unnecessary rambling.
I took my legs out of the blankets and revealed them to the "icy" air in my room. I did my unusual morning routine, since I was not bothered to take a shower, which included brushing my teeth and putting my hair up in a ponytail. I wore a pair of white converse, black Adidas pants and a plain grey jumper. Simple. I walked downstairs and took an apple for my way to school, "Bye, Mum, see you after school," I said, grabbing my bag and walking out of the house.
I took a bite of my red delicious apple while turning around the block, "Hey, Estelle, you ready for the first day of senior year?" Milan asked, running up to me.
Milan is one crazy girl, she can also kill you in a matter of seconds with her annoyingness. Milan transferred school's multiple times but her Father promised her that Lorenford would be the last stop forever, unless she didn't like it here.
"Of course, Milan. New year, new start." I answered, taking another bite of my apple.
"So, what is up with your outfit today?"
"What's wrong with it?"
"It's freaking twenty degrees! Summer weather!"
"Well, I like my outfit and I don't think anyone is going to care or even notice," I answered, chucking my apple in the bin.
"But I did, and I don't think any boy will ever consider dating you if you don't stop dressing like that," Milan retorted, her perfect, blonde hair swishing around. Sometimes I think about what it would've been like being her for just one day, getting all the attention and the prettiness. But I know for sure that I would hate it.
The amazing Lorenford High School sign greeted us as we walked past the gates, note the sarcasm. "Hey, Milan," Hailey greeted her with a huge, fake, smile.
"Hi," Hailey said, glancing at me but not even meeting my eyes. I nodded my head towards her and walked away with Milan.
"She's one rude girl, did you see that? She didn't even look at my eyes--hell, she didn't even acknowledge my name," I ranted, walking towards my locker.
See, it would be amazing to be Milan, she gets all the attention; but again, I know I would hate it.
"She probably didn't acknowledge you because of your outfit, because you know, she's a fashion-a-holic. Oh, and she's also probably jealous of you, you have billions of dollars and a massive house, actually, you have a mansion," Milan answered.
Now, to make things clear, I'm not one of those girls who brag about their rich family and huge house; I just happen to be the daughter of rich parents and I would do anything to just have a normal family, but I know it would be impossible.
Milan's locker was right next to mine, which was sometimes annoying for her and usually annoying for me. "Do you have Mister Morey for English?" Milan asked, while applying lip-gloss. Looking at her face full of makeup disgusts me sometimes, it sends me shivers down my spine.
