Rye always was the kind of guy who wanted to be out and hanging out with his friends. He drove his little blue car everywhere and said that he wanted to throw more parties so he could have his friends all in one place at the same time. So it shouldn't have surprised me when he randomly called and asked for my address.
Rye has always been that way. Since the first time we talked on Instagram, I knew in my mind that somehow, my life was going to be changed forever. That's why I gave him my address. Or the reason that I could use to explain my stupidity. Maybe I just wanted a little change in my life. Because while the carousel only spins one way and plays the same song, the people change. I guess the carousel is a metaphor for my life. Except I'm the only one stuck on this carousel while other people get off and it makes me envious.
When Rye pulled up in front of my house tonight, I almost didn't believe what I was seeing. But sooner or later reality happened and I saw him walking up the driveway towards my front door. Next, I heard him knocking. Three knocks that were quiet and firm. I didn't know he meant tonight so I had rushed to get ready. Not like I really needed to get ready besides my hair that had turned into a wild nest of brown for the doves.
I ran down the hallway making sure to stop and leave a note for my parents, which I knew I was going to be getting in trouble later for. Maybe, they would be happy that I had gotten out of the house for once. And then the time came, I had to open the door. Why am I nervous? We're just friends.
Maybe because I was stepping out on my own with a boy, and for once I was ready to run.
