When the past haunts

As he fell, his eyes stuck to a certain photo.

A small, silver cross, and an church. He then reached out and touched it.

"So be it." He heard Katrina say, before a blinding light flooded the area.

****
Toast stood in a car park. He looked up to see a place he knew well.

A church.

Rain fell onto him, soaking his clothes. He knew he was back in Britain and he knew he was in the past. The damp smell of the rain filled his lungs, but somehow, it reminded him of.. home.

He walked into the church and stood watching.

He saw his young self, holding the hands of his mother. Gavin was holding his little sister, Jenny, and the coffin (casket) was open.

He knew who was laying in there.

And he tried not to look at it.

"Mother," the little version of him said.

"Yes, baby." She sniffed.

"What's happened to Father?"

"He's asleep."

"Why won't he wake up? Because he told me, that he would take me to the fair when he got back from the drill."

The fair. He thought.

"Baby, he won't wake up. Not now. He's up in Heaven."

The little boy was silent for a moment.

"Can he take me to the fair when he gets back from Heaven?"

His mother was silent.

Toast remembered how he had still gone to the fair, and how he wore his father's hat there. He also remembered that, a week later, he had said goodbyes to his grandparents and left the palace to live in America and start over.
And in that same week, he met Ghost.

He stood at his Fathers grave, looking down.

"Excuse me, Sir," a small voice asked.

He turned to see his younger self.
"Oh, uhm, hi?" Toast replied.

"My names Johnathan, what's yours?"

"My names-." He smiled at the boy.

"You look a lot like Father." The boy turned and looked up at him. "Are you secretly Father?" He whispered.

Toast looked down at the boy, not knowing what to say.

"Or maybe your Father as an angel. Mother said that when people go to Heaven, they get turned into angels and stuff."

"Well, Johnathan, I'm not-"

"I love you Father." The boy beamed, a few tears in his eyes. He hugged Toast tightly.
"I'll look after Mother for you. And I'll make you proud. I promise."

Toast pushed the boy back and crouched down, holding him by his shoulders.

"You do that." He smiled. "Take care of the family. Because one day, you'll meet someone. The best friend ever. And when you do, you'll make me proud."

The boy smiled, wrapping his arms around his shoulders in a hug.

"I miss you, Father. And I love you."

"I love you too.. my boy." He kissed the child on the forehead and smiled.

"Johnathan! Come on, it's time to go!" His Mother called.

"Coming Mother."

"Why is he hugging nothing?" Gavin asked his Mother.

"Let him be, he seems happy."

It seems that the others can't see me.

"Goodbye Father!" The boy called, waving. "I love you!"

"Goodbye." He hesitated. "I love you too."

Toast turned back to the gravestone. "So, no one else could see me.. yet, I do remember seeing Fathers angel at the grave." He shook his head, running a hand through his hair. "This dream is getting to me."

His younger self had thought that he was his Father. At least he had told him he loved him.

He began to fall again. The picture flashing above him.

"It looks like that was a sad moment."

"Not really." Toast sighed, hugging himself.

"Tell me, how did your father die?"

"He was shot. He got called into the head office, since he was a captain, and then he got shot. Once in the chest, another in the lower torso. He bled out. And because he was a Prince, it made him more of a target."

"I see." Katrina stood in front of him as he fell. She hugged him. "There, there." Her face morphed into Toasts father's. "I don't love you. You never looked after the family. If you did, then your brother wouldn't be a criminal."

Toast then, sank away from her and looked around.

"How long will this last?" He asked.

"Long enough to make you go insane." She giggled.

She then, hovered beside him and pushed him into another photo.

****

"Ghost?"

"Sh."

"Ghost?"

"Sh."

"But Ghost,"

"What is it, Spooker?!" Ghost snapped his head around.

"I need to use the little boys room."

Colon laughed. "You should have thought of that before we left."

"I did, but then I drank some coffee and now I need to go again."

"You can go once we have found the drain thing." Ghost sighed, walking ahead.

"Ghost."

"What?"

"I found it." Spooker said, proudly.

"Really?" Ghost ran over and looked at it. The star on the drain. "Yep, this is it."

He then lifted it up and looked to Colon. "You go first."

The climbed in and immediately began to fall. A low buzzing sound filled their ears as colours flew around them.

A high pitched ringing joined in and then it got louder. Spooker and Colon screamed while Ghost tried to keep a good hold on all his things.

It suddenly stopped.
Ghost opened his eyes, looking around and sighing. He felt the bible sticking into the back of his leg and he felt someone move beneath him, while someone groaned on top of him.

"Ow." Colon groaned, rolling off Ghost.

"There, Spooker, you can go pee now." Ghost groaned in pain, moving the bible.

"No, it's too late for that, Ghostie."

I know nothing about traveling in dimensions.
