Soyoo's P.O.V.
The sunlight was making her way between clouds, hitting the road and the house, and some of it refracted inside the bedroom, making my place a little warmer than usual.
I gave one last stroke to my uniform and then I held it in my hands, taking off as much dirt as I could.
"That's what you get if you don't learn to come back when Mom is dozing off", I mumbled, as I put my clothes on.
I was up since 6 a.m., trying to clean that disaster up.
I did not sleep much, but I was used to it.
I put the books I needed in my rucksack, an umbrella and some tissues, just in case.
I checked myself out in the mirror, before going downstairs.
My short black hair hadn't seen an haircut since May, I realised, so they grew a lot, same for my bangs.
Once I adjusted the skirt that looked short on my long legs, put headphones in my ears, where they belonged, I rushed to see if there were some goodies left in the jar next to the microwave, or if I had to go and pay for my breakfast. Again.
It was still 7:00a.m.
I went to the dining table and looked for cookies with cream, my favourite sweets, but, it would have been too good to have it all served, right?
Since I could not find them anywhere, not even in the jar, I decided to just go and buy something for myself.
I first thought of one of those stands along the street, where men would sell different street foods. I wanted to try the croissant boong-uh-ppang, a variation of the typical croissant, from a sugary brioche to a pizza-like taste, all in one.
Guess that dream with Jongin-oppa made me want something European.
Also, there was a convenient store not too far away from my neighborhood, just some blocks before my school.
I could have bought something after lessons ended, just to refill the house, and to not spend too much of the money I pulled off with my last job.
As I walked to the front door, I took a moment to look at the sleeping body of Mom, laying on the couch like a big sloth, with something half in her hand and half on the ground, hanging from her arm.
An empty package of cookies.
"Tsk", I said, walking away. "Really, nothing to be surprised of."
A freezing wind caught me off guard while I opened the door, so I had to put my thick red scarf in its place around my neck as soon as I closed it. Goblin's feels intensify.
I started walking fast to not feel cold, directed to the street food stands.
Maybe because of the bad weather, there was only one already open, who sold humble Golden Fish for 2.000 won each. Not what I wanted, but could not complain.
I paid the man, and started eating my breakfast while I tried to find a nice bench to rest on, before my other Hell made of books began.
As I sat in an empty one, I found myself looking at people walking past me like the night before.
Then I heard a familiar rhythm.
🎧
Between all those emotionless people, I could clearly hear Be Quiet, played at full volume.
I wondered how was that even possible?
In Korea as much as in America, you would see dozens and dozens of people either looking at their mobile phones or in front of them, but in all the cases they would silently mind their own business. Not a sound could be heard, if not of who was calling someone.
