A/N: THIS IS ONLY MY PERSONAL THEORY on how I think of Ginger's origins. I'm not gonna bring in too much details (which means not a whole lot of conversations from the characters). So I apologize if the autobiographys may seem short to you all (Cause I really want to make them longer and more detailed. But unfortunately it's not always easy to do). For now Enjoy!
To the optimist Ginger and all her fans (myself included).
Relatives: Gayle (father), Sandra (mother), Fowler (adoptive father), Nobby (younger brother), Rocky Rhodes (husband), Etta (oldest daughter), Ricky (son), Molly (youngest daughter), Maddie (grandaughter), Coco (maternal grandmother), Clover (maternal grandfather).
Early Life and Curiosity of the Outside World
Ginger was born on the Tweedy's farm, along with Bunty and Babs. She grew up under the care of her mother Sandra. (It is unknown what happened to Ginger's father Gayle, a rooster with black feathers. He was most likely either sold or killed). Ginger and the others lived in fear, from their evil owners the Tweedys.
Ginger's first encounter with the Tweedys was just a few days after she had hatched. They came to examine her to see if she'd be right for laying and other stuff. Ginger was a little scared being in the clutches of Mr Tweedy, while Mrs Tweedy was giving her the cold stare. Thankfully though, they putted her back down after a few seconds and Ginger went back over to her mother, who she always felt the safest around.
Just a few days later, when roll call was starting, Sandra brought Ginger over and told her to line up like the rest of the chickens did. Sandra put her wing protectively around her young daughter, keeping Ginger close when the Tweedys entered the pen. Ginger didn't seem to understand the whole situation with the chickens lined up while Mrs Tweedy walked up and down the row, checking a list. Mr Tweedy soon took a hen named Abigail away, which left Ginger confused.
"Why did the mean man take Abigail away mama?" Ginger asked her mother.
Knowing that she couldn't protect her daughter from the truth forever, Sandra had to painfully explain the whole situation to Ginger. From then on, Ginger saw thousands of fellow hens slaughtered every week by the Tweedys.
Living this gloomy life led young Ginger to wonder what her's and all the others lives were truly all about. Her mother had even told her stories about a better life of freedom beyond the hillsides.
Meanwhile, Ginger had also made friends with some of the other young chicks, including Babs, and more of a frenemy with Bunty, but they all enjoyed playing together. The other chickens weren't too interested about Ginger's curiosity of life beyond the fenced coop and wanting to explore the outside world. Life wasn't always easy, but living in these terrible conditions weren't gonna crush this feisty little hen's spirit.
Big Sister Ginger and little Nobby
Ginger had already now been growing up a little, about 3 months (I'm only guessing). One day Ginger was called into the hut by her mother to watch the hatching of her new sibling, after her mother had hid the egg from the Tweedys. The new chick turned out to be a boy and was named Nobby. Ginger loved her new baby brother, but she also became a little jealous over all the attention he got at first. But she soon got over it and enjoyed helping her mother care for him. Nobby also became extremely attached to his big sister and would often follow her around sometimes.
A Mother's Demise and The Last Straw
Not too long after Nobby had hatched, Ginger had noticed her mother's behavior was a bit off. She hadn't been laying as much either. Now Ginger had always been extremely close with her mother, and she was the only reason Ginger kept her faith that one day they were gonna get out of this awful place. One evening Sandra told Ginger a story, like the ones she's always told Ginger about grass hills and a better life beyond the farm. Then they went outside on top of the hut roof to look at the stars and out to the hillside. After that, Ginger went to bed while Sandra sang her the same lullaby she always sang to Ginger every night since the day she hatched.
"Remember Ginger, i'll always love you" Sandra said, fearing it would be the last time she'd tell her daughter that.
Then on one fateful day during roll call, Sandra's fears were realized as Mrs Tweedy checked the list and stopped in front of her. Mrs Tweedy was about to reach out and grab Sandra before she got in a defense position with her feathers ruffled up. Mrs Tweedy seized Sandra by the neck while she started flapping her wings furiously and squawking aggressively. Ginger tried to help defend her mother, she held onto her wing. But Ginger soon lost her grip on her mother's wing as she was pulled back by Mr Tweedy. Ginger watched as Mrs Tweedy had her mother by the neck and took her over to the chopper. Sandra struggled with all her might to get free and started crying out to Ginger. Ginger ran up to the fence with tears in her eyes, watching her mother in agony.
"Mama! Mama!" Ginger cried out, before Fowler picked her up and took her away. Keeping the young hen inside the hut with her brother where it was safe so she wouldn't have to watch. The last thing Ginger heard was one last cry from her mother before a thud and then sudden silence.
A Better Place for us out There
After her mother was killed, Fowler took Ginger in as if she were his own daughter. It was extremely hard on Ginger having to grieve over the lose of her mother, but also now having to take care of Nobby by herself. While Ginger became rebellious and would often get herself into dangerous situations Nobby would follow her around, which Ginger got very annoyed with and worried because she cared deeply for Nobby's safety and he was the only family she had left. Although she hadn't talked about what happened to her mother since then, Ginger did her best to live up to her mother's teachings, mainly by valuing honesty. Then Ginger remembered her mother always told her when she's not with her is to be strong in hard times, and that she'll always be with her in her heart.
A year later and now a young adult, Ginger had been laying eggs for a while now. This made her worry a little, knowing that with what happened to her mother it was now a life or death situation for Ginger and all the others. The day her mother was killed, which still haunts Ginger made her realize that she had to get out of this Hell. Ginger soon told the other chickens her plan that would change their ways of living forever, they were going to escape Tweedy's farm.
Not to long after her mother's death, a new hen came to the farm. She was traded in from Scotland, as she had the accent and also wore glasses, her name was Mac. She and Ginger quickly became best friends. Mac soon became Ginger's assistant in her escape plans, while Ginger would usually come up with the plans, Mac would invent the contraptions they needed in order to make their escapes happen. Later on Ginger met the farm rats, Nick and Fetcher, and got them to contraband from the Tweedys in order to help out with the chickens escape plans. Eventually the other chickens started looking to Ginger as the unofficial leader of the flock.
After weeks of preparation, Ginger was ready to try out for her very first escape attempt. Unfortunately it was a huge failure and she was caught by Mr Tweedy, and since then he grew more suspicious over Ginger and kept an eye on her more often. Soon Ginger was tossed into the coal bin regularly after her various efforts to escape. After a few months, Ginger was soon running out of ideas on how they'd escape, after many another hens including Edwina were recently killed. Ginger desperately seeking hope, all that changed one night when a certain rooster crash-landed on the farm.
A/N: And so that's Ginger for ya. Stay tuned, there's more to come.
