Tyler led the way; he told me everyone was in the living room waiting to see the new member of the family.
“They like to think of us as a family, because a lot of them, like you, don’t have a biological one. That’s where we were today; a family outing. We always get to pick where we go and since it’s the start of the summer holidays all the little ones wanted to go to the beach.” He smiles at the disgust on my face. “We always have the choice to stay here but we normally go.” He stopped talking when we reached the door. I think Claire could sense my nervousness because she whispers.
“They’ll love you.” She gave my hand a small squeeze and pushed Tyler. “Open the door then.” She giggled at her authority.
“Yes ma’am.” Tyler laughed.
Everyone is sitting on the couches, all four couches are full. The room was about three times the size of my bedroom, with green and blue walls. There was a coffee table in the middle of the light blue couches.
I quickly counted all nine of them plus four adults. The butterflies in my stomach were just waiting to get out. I couldn’t understand why I was so nervous; I’d done this dozens of times. Tyler goes to an arm of one of the couches next to a boy who looks like him but maybe older; so that’s Brandon, I thought. Brandon elbowed Tyler in the ribs and whispered in his ear. Tyler playfully punched his arm and they both laughed. I wondered what they’re saying.
Claire didn’t let go of my hand and stands next to me boldly while everyone inspected me with their curious eyes.
“Well, someone say something.” Claire muttered making everyone laugh.
A tall skinny girl came over, I studied her carefully. At first glance she is one of those girls you’d dismiss as a slut but when you look closer you see differently. She had long wavy blonde hair that goes just above her belly button and big, bright green eyes. She was tanned, but naturally not fake and was wearing skin tight jeans and a small blue vest top. Her figure was amazing; just a little taller than me with a big chest and bum. She would be the obvious choice for a girlfriend.
“Hello Charlotte; I’m your roommate, Rebecca. But please call me Becca.” Becca put out her hand and I shook it. Her voice was not what I had expected; it was sweeter and more natural.
“Hey, please call me Charlie.” Becca smiled and nods, then took her seat back onto the couch.
Next a smaller girl steps up; I was guessing she was Avery because she seemed much older than me. She had long straight black hair with a full fringe and deep brown eyes. She only wore light make-up and plain clothes.
“Hi Charlie, I’m Avery.” She smiled and also shook my hand.
The same thing happened with Brandon a tall, extremely good looking sixteen year old. He had the same light brown hair as Tyler but shorter and spiked. Brandon was also tanned and only wore some surfer shorts; so his eight pack was on display. I couldn’t help but think him and Becca would make a good couple; if looks were everything.
Sophia a pretty eight year old with brown short hair; Harry a small, skinny eleven year old boy with glasses and gelled back black hair; Evie a pretty, blonde twelve year old who wore too much make-up; Colin a tall seven year old who copies of Brandon’s spiked hair and surfer shorts; Paul a nine year old small boy and Zack a chubby three year old with red curls and dimples all greeted me warmly.
Tyler came over to me and smiled.
“How you holding up, it’s a lot to remember.”
“I’m fine I remember most of them, I know your family for sure. Besides Claire keeps reminding me of everyone’s names.” I smiled.
