"One whole minute!" she had said proudly. "I can hold my breath for one whole minute!" then the image shifted, and it was the aftermath; the years that followed; the image of the red broken car in the trash.

Leo didn't move a muscle. He stared sternly at the blank wall on the opposite side of the room, unblinking. He tried to focus on the crack in the wall, or the steady rise and fall of his chest, or the lyrics of that song he heard yesterday, anything. The steady pattern of his breathing was disrupted when he inhaled a deep breath. This disruption snapped Leo out of his daydream. With a still vacant expression on his face, he grabbed a bottle of sleeping pills, because he knew that if he didn't, his brain would start racing again, and in less than half an hour, he was out.

Leo had a really weird dream; in the dream, he was sleeping, and Bella and Noah shaking him awake.

"Wha- what?" he yawned.

And suddenly, as if rehearsed, Bella and Noah each grabbed a pillow and threw it at his face.

"YOU'RE AN IDIOT! AND YOU WERE AN IDIOT BY YOURSELF, COME ON DUDE, YOU KNOW OUR PACT! ONLY DO IDIOTIC THINGS WHEN I'M WITH YOU!" yelled Noah, or at least he said something of that meaning. Leo wasn't entirely sure, he was too busy trying to stop the ground from moving.
"Leo, how much Ambien did you take?" asked Bella

Leo remained silent.

"Leo, how many pills did you take?" Bella demanded.

Leo slowly lifted his eyes to hers, and replied "red."

Bella and Noah gave each other a look. Noah shrugged as if to say "what should we do?" and Bella was biting her nails.

"You really shouldn't bite your nails, Bella," Leo mumbled, half-aware of what he was saying. "Faye used to bite her nails. June used to crack her knuckles, like my mom. Not my dad though, he never did anything wrong... nothing wrong at all..."

"June and Faye and mom and dad," he continued. "None of them are with me now... they're all gone..." he mumbled.

Noah was still looking at Leo strangely. But Bella's look was a different one-an analytical one, then she whispered something to Noah and left.

"Bella is scared?" Leo puzzled.

Noah mulled it over. "Yes," he decided, "Maybe concerned would be a better word, but now is not the time to expand our vocabulary. Now go to sleep...No, don't sleep! Couldn't you like slip into a coma or something? Wait, no, that's for concussions..."

When Leo really woke up, he was alone. He tried to remember what the dream was about; Bella and Noah were here, he had taken too much Ambien, and Bella was 'concerned'... why? He mentioned Faye... and June. And his parents. Yes, that was what happened. The dream seemed so oddly realistic it was creepy. Leo thrust open the drawer of his bedside cabinet where he kept his Ambien, and twisted the lid open, only to find that he, in fact, did take too much Ambien, and Noah and Bella's response to that in the dream was frighteningly accurate to what it would have been in real life.

Could it be possible that I wasn't dreaming? He grabbed his phone and began his top-secret research, also known as typing 'help I took too much Ambien' into Google and hoping he could find something that would give him a clue:

Common side effects of prescription sleeping pills such as Lunesta, Sonata, Ambien, Rozerem, and Halcion may include:

- Daytime drowsiness

- Impairment the next day

- Mental slowing or problems with attention or memory

- Uncontrollable shaking of a part of the body

- Unusual dreams

Unusual dreams! Okay, it was a dream. A freakishly realistic dream, but still a dream...
