Hunk jolted out of bed, his alarm buzzing. "Quiznak! Why'd I forget to turn this off!" he exclaimed, gazing at the clock. Quarter to six. His school wakeup time. It was saturday, though. No school. He needed sleep, but Hunk was one of those people who was up when they woke up.
Hunk sent a text to the group chat with Shay, Lance, Keith, and Pidge. 'Hey! When is everyone free to hang out?'
Hunk immediately got a reply. It was Keith. 'I'm free around nine. I can spend the rest of the day after that.'
Another text came in. 'Normally, I would say no, but you two woke me up. So I guess I'm up for nine now.'
Hunk smiled. He always liked Shay's sarcasm, even over text. He knew she woke up early anyway. She did solo cheer practice starting at five on saturdays, either working on existing routines, or, as cheer captain, choreographing new ones.
Hunk sent another text. 'Hey, Keith. Can you wake Lance up?'
Keith replied. 'We don't live together...'
'But he's more likely to respond to you.'
'Okay. Just a sec.'
A few seconds later, Lance texted on the group chat. 'I'm herw I'n up Kekyh wikr me up. I cn coje at ninr o click. Srr yiu latr.'
Hunk was just waiting on Pidge now. He wondered what Pidge was doing at the moment. A few minutes later, the phone buzzed again, this time from Pidge. 'Sorry! I try to block out all noise Saturday mornings. That includes my phone, I guess. I'll be there.'
Hunk got up and took a shower, making sure to put on some fresh cologne afterwards in order to impress Shay. He was kind of disappointed that Lance, Keith, and Pidge were coming, but it would probably minimize awkwardness. He threw on a t-shirt and a pair of nice cargo shorts. He swapped the t-shirt out for a button-down. Had to impress Shay. Hunk got butterflies just thinking about her.
Hunk walked downstairs and got some ingredients out of his pantry. His parents came downstairs at around seven in the morning to the sound of chocolate chip pancakes sizzling in the frying pan.
"Smells good, Hunk!"
"Thanks, mom. One or two?"
"You know I could never pass up an extra pancake from the best chef I know!"
Hunk's mom hugged him as he flipped a pancake, throwing it a few feet in the air before catching it perfectly. Hunk knew how long that can take to perfect, and his mom's cleaning supplies knew it, too.
As Hunk finished making the pancakes, he piled three onto two of the plates and just two onto the other. He knew his mom had the smallest appetite in the house, and could not down three of his pancakes. The three Garrets dug into their pancakes.
Throughout breakfast, Hunk felt his phone buzz frequently, but didn't answer it due to family time with his parents. When he finally checked his phone, there were many texts from Pidge, all making fun of his obvious attraction to Shay.
'Look, man,' Hunk texted, 'Stop. Keith told me that you harassed him and Lance yesterday. You have to stop this.'
'Wow. Sorry. I didn't realize it was that important to you guys.'
'That's fine. You're new.'
'Sorry again. See you at nine.'
Hunk checked the clock. It was eight fifteen. Suddenly Hunk got a text from Keith on the group chat. 'Where are we meeting?'
