my cousin taught me the biggest life lesson
at only five years old.
he was a hands on teacher.
he proved to me that
sex and love coincide
by shoving my hands into his jeans.

my friend in second grade threw me a similar example,
that boys will be boys
by sliding his fingers into my panties.

a classmate freshman year laid out the truth
by groping the pieces of meat on my chest in algebra.
and i knew it was proven because
in my head
it was a routine.

and no one breaks the routine.

someone all throughout high school sent tantalizing photos to mimic her value.
but the boys saw her value as a price tag
and she wore her big heart between her legs
instead of her sleeve.

i didn't break the routine.
and neither did the boys.
