White Chaser

You looked around the ship as everyone boarded on, looking around for the glasses wearing woman that accompanied him everywhere it seemed.

You tapped your foot against the deck, your arms crossed over your chest as you still didn't see him board along with everyone else. You peeked over the rails, watching him give her a slight pat on the shoulder before walking up the platform to the deck.

As he made his way up, your finger tapped against the railing of the marine ship; eyes watching him walk up until he was beside you. "Smoker."

He flinched slightly, glancing over as he leaned against the side railing where you were. "Y/N."

"It's either you've been trying to forget about me or your mushi needs be replaced, I've tried to call you I don't know how many times.."

"I would've thought you'd talk to me about it when I got back, that's why I didn't answer. I was busy alright? I can't help it it's what happens when I'm out of the lines.."
He tossed the nub of tobacco into the waters below, lighting another to accompany the other slowly burning down in his lips. "I've been out of the area, the weather was shit, the connection would've been awful."

"Would've been..Still, do you even care? What If I was calling to tell you something bad had happened?" You tilted your head, leaning against the rail as your brows furrowed. "What if i couldn't talk to you about it afterwards because I would be dead?"

"I don't worry about things like that.." he put a hand on your shoulder, guiding you away from the railing as the ship started out of port. "I know that when I'm away you're thoroughly protected."

You shook your head, closing your eyes as you exhaled deeply. One of your hands roamed on your swollen stomach hidden beneath the coat, your eyes opening with small tears pricking them. "How are you so sure..?"

You swallowed, your hand coming up to wipe your eyes before the tears could spill onto your cheeks. "How could you be so sure? And at sea for three months? Something could've happened and you wouldn't have known because you didn't want to pick up the damn phone!"

"Y/N why are you getting so out of control about this? I'm home now it's not a problem, what is it that you needed to tell me now it seems like you're trying to push it back." He crossed his arms, the smoke from the cigars wafting away from your direction as he looked at you with soft auburn eyes. "Is there something wrong that I need to know about..?"

You looked up at him, your hand still caressing over the small bump as the other stuffed itself in your pocket. "I'm...."

You felt your eyes swell up again, your throat tightened as you looked down. "I'm...I'm pregnant..." You felt the tears slowly slide down your cheeks, swallowing back a sob as he stood silent in front of you.

"You're... Pregnant..?" You watched his boots take a few steps forward, one of his hands coming to rest on your shoulder. "As in..There's a child... inside of you...? Is it..Mine..?"

You looked up at him, rubbing your eye. "Of course it's yours..I was just...i was just so scared to tell you...i thought you'd leave me if you found out.."

"Why...Would I do that?" He tossed the cigars away, his arms coming around you to envelope you in a warm embrace. "Why would I do that? I don't understand that at all.."

"It's just..You're so tired and busy all the time I thought you'd be too busy to help with the baby..So I just..Was thinking the worst.." you hiccuped into his chest, resting your hands against him. "I was so afraid of calling you, and when I did and you didn't pick up I thought something terrible had happened.."

"No.." he rubbed your back slowly. "No..Nothing bad happened to me..." He pulled away, looking down at you as he tilted your chin up for a small kiss. "I'm just...I don't know. I've never had anything like this happen...i don't know how to handle something like this..."

"I know..What are we going to do?" You watched him as he ran a hand through his hair, the other tucking hair behind your ear.

"I think.." he wrapped an arm around your waist. "I think that we can do something.." he nodded. "I can have you at Marine Ford, you'll be kept under surveillance there...And if anything happens to you I'll be alerted about it alright..?"

You nodded slowly, unzipping the coat to pull it away. "Alright...But you'll have to tell them that.." you smiled slightly, his hand reaching out slowly to rest against your swollen tummy. "You're the daddy.."

He kneeled down slowly and looked up at you with a small flush on his cheeks, clearing his throat as he leaned forward. "Uh...Hi, I was just wondering if it would be alright for you and mommy to go on a little vacation without me for a little while..? I'll be with you as soon as I can..I promise.."

You smiled slightly, brushing a hand through his hair as he looked up at you. "Yes daddy that's fine..." You leaned down, pecking his forehead before he could stand.  "But for right now I just want you to hold me..I've missed you for these three months..I've been worried about you.."

You relaxed slowly in his arms as they wrapped around you, the wind picking up slightly as you felt his jacket flap against you. "I love you.." your arms wrapped around his middle, closing your eyes as you let out a contented sigh. "I love you a lot.."

His hand came up to brush your hair back, leaving a small kiss to the top of your head as he rested his chin against it. "I love you too...I love you both.."
