Nobody knew when my birthday was. Not Lily, not Alice, not even the marauders, who felt it was their personal duty to take care of after my home life crumbled. I didn't want special treatment, I didn't need gifts, I didn't want to have memories of previous, awful birthdays brought back to me. I treated my birthday like any other day, so naturally I didn't tell anyone. If the marauders knew, I would be getting a party in the common room, complete with decorations, presents and alcohol (Sirius' addition to the mix). I didn't want that though, so my brithday remained a secret, even to Remus who was my boyfriend. Until sixth year.
I love astrology. I've always been particularly obsessed with the zodiac signs. My sign had been about 90% correct whenever I had looked at personality traits. This of course led me to be looking at compatibility charts and reading traits for the boys as well. My slight obsession with astrology led to me being very happy when we were told that we would be having a night class on my birthday. Just because I didn't want special treatment, didn't mean I didn't want to do something I liked on that day. During night classes we were able to actually look at the stars instead of just talk about them. So at 8:00 that night, we made our way to the astronomy tower and class began. It only took about ten minutes for the professor to remind us about how to use a telescope and that sort of thing and then set us off to do what we wanted. James and Peter were looking through a telescope while I was sitting next to Remus, flipping through the textbook for anything about the zodiac constellations. Sirius was flirting with a girl who had been sitting behind us. We could hear him telling her loudly about how he was named after the brightest star in the sky. I laughed, rolling my eyes and looking over at Remus.
"So he knows all about his star, but still won't actually do the homework that's based on it?"
Remus looked up at me, "You know Padfoot, he's only gonna do research if it'll help him get a date."
"Your right. I shouldn't even be surprised." I said, still turning the pages of the old book in front of me.
"What are you looking for?"
"The zodiac constellations."
"You like that sort of stuff?"
"Yeah. It's actually amazing how much of it is accurate. It's always been fascinating to me, the way that your personality can have something to do with the stars and the time that you were born around."
Remus looked at me and smiled. He always liked to watch me talk about things I was passionate about.
"I also like the compatibility part of it to. The fact that your birthday can have something to do with how well you get along with other people is strange and you know me, I like strange things." I smile up at him.
"Hey, what's our compatibility?"
"Not sure, I've never checked." I told him as I continued to look through the tattered pages. Finally I found a chapter that had to do with the zodiac signs.
