-Camilla POV-
In that exact moment, everything went silent and almost in slow motion. My heart dropped, my mouth hung open, and I was at a loss for words. The only thing that managed to escape was his name, which happened to crack at the end much to my dismay.
The look on his face was one of shock. He immediately froze and regret instantly filled his eyes. The girl he was all over looked confusedly between us both before nudging away from Harry a bit.
“Camilla, oh my god…” He finally said after hopping up on his feet and walking towards me with his hand outstretched towards me. I did the only thing I could think of at the moment and took three steps back, shaking my head. Tears threatened to spill, but I composed myself. I was not about to publicly humiliate myself by crying over someone who doesn’t give a shit about me.
Prior to arriving at this party, I was so excited and ready to just let him know that I felt the same and didn’t want to fight my feelings anymore. Sophia even gave me an inspiring pep talk in the car, which eased my nerves.
As I arrived, while I walked through all the sweaty bodies and dodged being hit, the bass from the music amplified my adrenaline as I searched for a curly head among these strangers. “Hey baby, wanna dance?” I rolled my eyes at the blonde pervert and from then on avoided the dance floor to remain focused on finding him. I checked every room, the front yard, and frightened almost every guy with curly hair by giving them all the stare down.
After no such luck inside, the backyard seemed to be a plausible place for him to be hanging out. When I pushed open the back door, small groups of people scattered around the large backyard. Some smoking, some playing beer games, and others just hanging out enjoying the vibe. I weaved my way through everyone and came along to a stone path that leads to a beautiful garden in a short distance. I hoped he would be here; the serene calmness would be perfect to make my nerve-wracking confession since it was so discrete and private. Upon making it down the path, my eyes immediately landed on a couple shamelessly all over each other in the garden. I couldn’t believe it, it was him.
“Please just listen, you have to understand. It’s not what you thi- I know it looks bad, but just gimme a second to-“ I cut him off with a raise of my hand and turned back, hanging my head in sadness. I somehow knew something bad was going to happen at this party. I ran back up to the house and swung open the back door, I couldn’t be here anymore. I walked straight into the kitchen looking high and low for Sophia. I hope that when I told her what happened; she’d be understanding and take me home.
Heavy footsteps followed me throughout the house but I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of acknowledging his presence. He didn’t deserve any of my attention after what I just saw. Anytime I decide to maybe give us a chance, he just shows me why I shouldn’t. We’re just not meant to be and I finally can grasp onto that sad realization.
“Camilla! Wait up please! Come on!” He grabbed me by the shoulder when I turned the corner into a hallway and forced my body to face him. I stared blankly ahead, not making eye contact.
“Would you look at me please? I can explain, just hear me out.” I looked at him with the best unamused, hardest stare I could muster up. I didn’t want to speak, so I hoped my eyes could do some talking for me. I crossed my arms and nodded at him expectantly. I just want to zone out everything he’s saying just so he could leave me alone and I could leave.
“Okay right, anyway, I don’t know what I was thinking. I saw you with Zayn and-“
“Oh, so that’s what it is huh? You sat in your car outside my apartment watching us and decided the best revenge was to get me jealous?” I practically spat at him with so much anger.
“Can I finish please? And no of course not! You would never be a game to me Camilla! I could just get so jealous which causes me not to think straight and the best thing I could think of was to get back at you… But if you want to be with him, I get it…” He trailed off, breaking eye contact.
I sighed loudly, “Harry! I am not with Zayn! We just hung out! I mean, he told me he likes me much more than just a friend, but I don’t see him like that.” I left out the part about the kiss; I don’t think his little heart would be able to withstand that amount of hurt. It didn’t mean anything anyway.
He eyes bulged right out of it’s sockets as he exclaimed, “Really?! Oh my god, what a relief.. I thought I’d have to kill him for a second.” His mood did an automatic switch from distress to relief in about 3 seconds. This guy was so confusing, I can’t handle this many mood swings. Those were supposed to be my job.
“That doesn’t justify that what you did was okay, Harry. I thought you were a genuinely nice guy. No matter how jealous you get, it’s not okay to do that. I was actually looking for you to tell you my true feelings about us but after what I saw, I can’t trust you.” My short speech lingered in the air for a second as he registered all I was saying. I didn’t wait to give him a chance to speak since I wanted to break the awkward tension.
“I’m going to find Sophia and head out of here. This night went horrible fast and I just need to sleep it off. Goodbye Harry.” It all hurt to say but I had to do it. I scooted past his tall figure in the hallway. He remained oddly silent as I left. The last I saw was him fall against the wall and sit with his head in his hands.
-Harry POV-
I had never been so disappointed in myself. I have to stop working off anger and quit jumping to conclusions. I had just ruined the start of something that could’ve been so great. We never got a chance to see where our feelings could take us or turn into. All because I was such an asshole to her, when she didn’t deserve it.
The fact that I wasn’t as sneaky as I thought, and she caught me sitting outside her apartment in her house probably made me look like some crazy stalker. I was simply concerned for her well being which also gave me the perfect excuse to see her and possibly fix things.
When she told me about the true relationship between her and Zayn, I felt silly for reacting the way I did. I should have just asked instead of turning to revenge so quickly. Relief also flooded over me, especially because her tone sounded so playful when she told me. Boy, was I wrong. Not only had I ruined a possible relationship, but also I lost all her trust and hope of even being her friend. You’re an idiot Harry.
I had no way of seeing her again without a good excuse. She has already given me a few chances to prove myself but all I do is ruin it because I make stupid decisions. As I wallowed in self-pity, the bathroom door in front of me swung open revealing a girl clad in only tight spandex shorts and a bra. Her hair was a mess and she was barefoot. Classy.
“Camillaaaaa! Where are yooouuuuuu!” She called out to what seemed like nobody. She held onto the wall for support but soon slumped down against the bathroom door, right in front of me. This girl was totally wasted and obviously needed help. When she called out Camilla, I took it as a sign of fate for another reason to go back to her apartment and get her friend home safe.
She looked up at me and caught my staring bewildered at her presence. She let out a small giggle and smiled blissfully; amused by something I was unaware of. “Oh hey cutieeeeeee, what’s you’re name?”
“I’m Harry. Do you need some water? Or a ride home?” I mentally crossed my fingers hoping that she’d agree to my second question.
“The names Sophiaaaaa.. Can I ride you instead?” She winked at me. Pretty sure this is the only time I’ve wanted to vomit when a girl offered me sex.
“No I’m okay, let’s just get you home.” I stood up and held my hand out to her to take. She grabbed it with no energy so I took it upon myself to lift her up bridal style. She latched her arms around my neck and immediately fell asleep against my chest. I knew Camilla was angry at me and just wanted to get home, but I was surprised she’d just leave her wasted friend in a house full of strangers. I’m just glad I’m the one who found her.
Fortunately I already knew where she lived, so I placed her in the backseat and set off to my new destination. Turning the key into the ignition, I sped down towards the main highway. I was going to make this right, no matter what it took.
Kind of a lame chapter but hope you enjoy!
