They were starving.

Their cries and screams from within the abandoned facility dug deep into one's bone-marrow. They scratched at the brick wall in an attempt to break to the outside, blood running down their fingers as it tore open their nails. The ground was shaking as they moved with their huge bodies, their faces looking wild and distorted, matching with the noises they gave off.

The young man was right, when he thought that the barricade seemed unstable. It held them inside for quite a while now, but the titans took their toll on it.

At last, the wall finally gave in and the titans broke through the barricade.

"I won't leave this place.", you replied calmly. But he didn't give up that easily. "Why do you want to stay in this abandoned place all by yourself?", he asked you. His grey eyes were kind of intimidating to you. "I am not by myself.", you said, starting to feel uneasy, "My elder brother is here with me."

"And where is he?", he countered with a stoic expression on his face.

You gulped at that. This man was really nosy, you thought to yourself, even though he did not seem like that at all.

"Listen...", he began, "...I don't know what your circumstances are. All I know is that I have been roaming a lot of places for the past months. There were a lot of times when I thought that I was the only survivor, but yesterday I finally met you. Chances are, that there are more of us out there. We should join forces and..."

He stopped, when he saw you tearing up. You did your best not to burst out in tears in front of him, holding in your breath. "I already told you...I won't leave this place.", you repeated with a trembling voice this time.

"The truth is that my brother left some time ago to get some medication from the nearby towns for me. I had a high fever at that time and he insisted on getting me some paracetamol. Regarding the flowers...", you said as you nodded in the direction of the vase.

"My brother loves tulips, so I pluck some everyday. He said that mother loved them, so it would only b natural to love them as well. I want him to be happy when he comes home.", you told the man with a sad smile. "When did he leave?", he asked.

Every last spark left your eyes.

"He left more than a month ago."

You knew what he must have been thinking. "I won't leave this place.", you repeated apathetically as if it would turn into reality, "I'm sure he will return." You took another bite of the eggs and washed it down with some milk.

He remained silent for a while and looked at the vase, which was overflowing with flowers.

"I have always been alone.", he suddenly said. You stopped eating and looked up at him. "I thought I would lead a meaningless life. To be honest, everything in this world seemed meaningless to me. It may sound presumptuous of me, but I know how you feel. But even so, you need to carry on with your life and survive somehow."

You looked at him with your hollow eyes. "You honestly don't strike me as the motivational type.", you scoffed. "You may be right with that.", he agreed soberly, "But I've met many people in my life, who've changed how I see the world. I don't plan on sitting around all day, wallowing in self-pity or anything. I made a vow to myself that I will find other survivors and that I will continue living at all costs."

"No matter how touching your speech was, I won't abandon this place. What if my brother returns and..."

You couldn't finish your sentence. A loud banging noise from afar took the both of you by surprise.
