Chapter 3: Lex

The note stopped there. As I uncovered the thing behind the tablecloth, fear took over our bodies and eventually left us paralyzed.

The testing tube was Broken

"What the hell!?" William responded. I looked around, then back at the testing tube. Through the cracks, I could see some dark matter seeping out. Maybe it was left over from the thing? I suddenly realized that we left Alexa all alone, and with this thing on the loose, if she gets killed, I would never forgive myself. I grabbed William by the arm and rushed him downstairs. My heart was pounding like a drum band. As we ran downstairs, I heard screams coming from my room. Then I remembered that Alexa was in there! As we got closer to the room, the noises became dimmer. However, when we did get there, I realized that the door was open. I was 100% sure that it was closed before. We entered the room and was overtaken by surprise, as I could only see a very calm Alexa. I frantically shouted, "Alexa are you ok!?" She replied with a nonchalant "Umm Sean, you didn't tell me you had company over." William introduced himself as he gave me a weird look. I looked back at Alexa, who had a confused look. She was about to speak when I said "Don't even ask... It's a long story." We need to leave Now I thought. "Hey William, did you by any chance come here with your car?" I asked. "Hmm... Oh yeah! Good old Lex!"

Of course, only William would name his car. I've known him since middle school, and he is one of those crazy weirdos that people love as a companion. We ran outside to his car and as he opened the door, I snatched the keys from him and said: "Sorry, but I'm driving this time." He seemed okay with it and sat in the passenger's seat next to me. "So where are we going?" He asked. "Far away from here." I responded, "Why?" He countered. I stayed quiet for a while, and he looked at me nervously. Then I figured that I didn't want to talk about it. I decided to change the subject and asked: "Hey, why did you name your car anyway?" He chuckled at the question. "You remember Lex, right?" Of course, I remembered him. He was the most reasonable person in my group of friends. Then it hit me. I remembered that we used to tease him and call him "Lexus". "Oh..." I laughed for the first time in what seemed like forever. "Makes perfect sense now. Hey, I wonder..." I picked up my phone and tapped some numbers. After a minute or two, someone on the other side picked up. A voice opened with a curious "Hello?" After getting over a wave of excitement and relief, I finally uttered out a response: "Lex?"
