Have you ever had that feeling of extreme happiness that no matter how tired you are you have a lot of energy because of how happy you are? Well that was what I was feeling the day after Shawn asked me to be his girlfriend.
I walked to school with so much energy that everyone looked at me as if I were crazy. Is it a crime to be happy now?
I met Shawn on my way to Chemistry. "Hello my beautiful girlfriend." I put my hand in his. "Good morning, my beautiful boyfriend. How's life?" I gave him a big smile and he reciprocated it. "I've never been better."
We walked to my locker to pick up my books. I looked up at Shawn and smiled. "What is it?" He said with a small laugh. I shook my head. "It's nothing. I'm just really happy. I mean, who else wouldn't be happy that their hot best friend is also their boyfriend?" He hugged me and let go until I made fake choking noises. "Let's go. I'll walk you to class."
On the way to class we crashed into Steven, who was going to the opposite side of the school. He smiled when he saw us. "So it's true? Are you finally my sister in law?" I gave him hug. What is it with me and giving hugs today? "We're finally family!" Shawn cleared his throat and I let go of his brother. I rolled my eyes at him and got inside my class.
For some reason my overflow of happines and excitement was making the day go much faster than it usually does. It was also making me work better. So much better that most of my teachers had to ask me if I was okay.
By the end of the day I was ready to hang out with my friends until I remembered that life isn't so perfect and they still were chained to Ashley.
I was about to text Shawn when he appeared right next to me. "Wanna go eat some frozen yogurt? We could go to TCBY. They put a new one at the mall." I gave him a smile. "You seem overly excited for frozen yogurt." He laughed and took my hand as we walked. "Nah. I'm just overly excited about hanging out with you. And it's friday, so, freedom!" We laughed and walked to his car.
"I'll text my mom and tell her we're going to the mall." He gave me a nod and started the car.
The mall in The Town is relatively small. It has probably only thirty five stores and a small food court. And most of the time it's full of middle school girls and high school freshmen.
We headed to TCBY and bought our ice creams. We sat at one of the little tables and started eating.
"Why didn't you tell your friends that you're moving?" I put my spoon down and sighed. "I wanted to but we're all at such a good place right now that I didn't want to ruin it by saying that I'm leaving in eight months." His expression turned sad. "You only have eight months left here?" I took a spoonfull of my frozen yogurt. "Technically seven. My mom wanted us to leave a month early to get used to everything before I went back to school." He nodded and stayed silent until we were both finished eating.
While we walked through the mall I was thinking a lot. About the future, about school, senior year, college and finally if Shawn and I would stay together when I moved to Florida.
I wanted for us to try a long-distance relationship but that would be unfair to him. Making him wait for me when I was so far away. And if we didn't go to college together then all the effort would all be a waste.
"Emma!" I turned my head to him. "What?" He sighed. "I asked you if you've thought about the next thing we're going to do before you leave." I thought about it for a few seconds and an idea that had been in the back of my mind resurfaced.
"What do you think about ending the rivalry between your friends and mine?" He stopped walking and shook his head. "You are the most crazy human being I know. How do you plan on doing that?"
