We arrived at the beach and all of my friends were there. "Hey pretty girl!" said Vincent as I gave him his coffee. "Hey pretty boy!" I said with a smile. That had been our way of saying hello ever since we were little kids and he had a crush on a girl named Jessie. I would always make fun of him because the first thing he ever said to her was "Hey pretty girl". The day we met was because I started laughing at him for his lack of flirting experience. Thus a beautiful friendship was born.

Tamara and I gave all of our friends their coffee and then we all start talking. "You won't believe what I heard!" said Ashley. "Tell us, tell us!" said Kasey. Ashley pressed her lips together as if thinking wether she should tell us her secret or not. She breathed in and said "Jenna told me that Christopher told her that Kevin told him that Brian was going to ask me out on a date with the excuse of a one-on-one soccer game." Kasey and Michelle, the twins, gasped. Michael grinned and said "If you want, Vincent and I can ask him if the rumors are true and give him a few pointers." Ashley smiled wide and nodded fast. She stood up and hugged both Michael and Vincent. "Thank you so so so much!" Both boys hugged her back.

I had a weird friend group. There are eight of us, five girls and three boys. There's Tamara, the leader; Ashley, the bitch; Kasey and Michelle, the twins and me, the second in command if you think of this as an army. Then there are the boys. Vincent, the big brother; Michael, the player and John, the drunk. Just kidding, he's also a player. Though, to be honest, the three of them are total players. They can break a girl's heart with the snap of their fingers.

After an hour of hanging out at the beach my friends started to leave. Tamara, about to leave, turned around and came up to me. "If I give you a ride home, will you come with me to the hospital?" I looked at her confused. "The hospital? What happened?" She looked at me with sad eyes. "Come on, I'll tell you in the car."

In the car, we drove silently for what seemed like forever. I wanted to ask her what had happened, but I wasn't used to sentimental conversations with my best friend. Our friend group had more of a "I have your back because it's easier to stab you that way" kind of friendship. It was sad actually, how we didn't know much about each other after 5 years of knowing each other yet we'd turned our backs at each other so many times. It was a very toxic friendship.

"So, are you going to tell me what happened, or should I just wait until we get there?" She sighed. "My mom had an overdose again." I nodded. There was nothing I could say, even if there was, I was speechless.

When we got to the hospital I went in with Tamara. I was about to go see her mom too until the secretary said to me "Excuse me Miss, only family is permitted." Tamara opened her mouth, preparing herself for an argument but I looked at her and said "It's okay, go, I'll wait for you here." She gave me a slight smile and went to her mother's hospital room.

As I was waiting I got interest in a cute guy sitting in front of me. He had a hoddie on and was looking down at his phone. It was hard to look at his face, but the intrigue of only seeing his beautiful light brown hair was enough for me to get interested in him. I kept staring at him, trying to see his face until he locked his phone and looked up. I quickly looked another way and pretended to text someone. Even with my face to the other side of the room, from the corner of my eye I saw his face and I realized. I was checking Shawn out.
