Five

Jac and Zosia both arrived back at the house and payed he taxi driver, they heard Emma crying and daisy trying to sooth. Jac went inside first and over to her daughter.

"It's okay princess, mummy's here. Your going to be okay" Jac told her crying daughter as she wrapped her arms around Emma and held her tight, Zosia payed Daisy and saw the rash on Emma's small arms, she knew that with the symptoms she may have meningitis so she dashed to the kitchen to grab a glass to check the rash. She placed the glass over Emma's rash and nodded.

"Jac baby we need to get Emma to the hospital, this rash, it could be meningitis" Zosia calmly told her fiancé.

"We'll drive, it'll be much quicker than calling for an ambulance" Zosia calmly, she grabbed Emma's coat and they rushed to the car, Jac put Emma into her car seat, covered her with her coat and made sure her seatbelt was secure.

"I feel sick mummy" Emma cried, Jac got on the passenger seat, seeing her daughter crying always broke her own heart, she hated seeing Emma sad or hurting but that's what being a mother intends to do, it breaks you and makes you.

"We're going to get you help baby, you will be okay, Mummy and Mummy Zosia are here, we won't let you get worse" Jac reassured her little girl as Zosia began the journey to the hospital. They knew the ED would be busy, it's a Saturday night, it would probably be full of drunken idiots thinking their all clever just because they managed to do one stupid thing which landed them at the emergency department. Zosia pulled into a car park space and Jac got out the car getting Emma out too, she held her crying daughter feeling helpless. Zosia locked the car and followed her partner as they went to get  Emma checked in.

"Emma's a fighter, she's like you. She'll be alright" Zosia spoke softly to Jac who had broke down crying, she was worried, this side of Jac was hardly ever shown so when it did show Zosia was surprised and sometimes didn't even know how to react. She wrapped her arms around her fiancé letting her cry into her shoulder.

"She looks so fragile Zosh, what if they haven't caught it in time" Jac worried. Emma was soon started on some antibiotics through an IV drip and transferred up to AAU while they wait for more tests to be done, usually children would be taken to the Children's Ward. The tests seemed to take forever and the longer they took the more worried and anxious Jac became, Zosia was also really worried but their was nothing she could do but sit and comfort her fiancé as well as wait. Emma was in a side room so it was a lot quieter.

"Emma's bloods have been brought back, we've got her diagnosis" Morven told Jac and Zosia who immediately looked to the F2 waiting impatiently for the diagnosis.

"Emma has meningitis, we've caught it just in time, before theirs any lasting damage, we're going to keep her in for s few days and monitor her progress, we're going to keep her on antibiotics, we will also have to give the pair of you antibiotics since you had been in around her for a long time, we also advise informing Emma's Babysitter and the crèche" morven explained to both Jac and Zosia even though they both already knew this.

"See I told you she would be alright" Zosia smiled kissing Jacs tear stained cheek.

"Thank you Zosh, I don't think i would have been able to cope without you" Jac spoke softly as her daughter slept soundly in the hospital bed.

"I've done what any fiancé would do for their partners. You and Emma mean everything to me" Zosia smiled, Jac rested her head on zosias shouder, it was rather oddly but they managed.

"I know we've not booked the wedding yet but I thought maybe when Emma's better we could both book a Saturday off from work and go to an orphanage open day, start looking into the adoption process, we could take Emma with us" Jac suggested, she wanted to get the ball rolling now more than ever after all you never know how long your'll have left.

"Are you sure? I thought we agreed to wait until after the wedding?" Zosia asked as she glanced to her right shouder where Jacs head was resting.

"Really sure" Jac smiled. The couple spent hours talking and finally dropped off to sleep in the early hours of the morning. The next morning Zosia woke up with a stiff neck and no Jac beside her, Emma was just waking up in bed too.

"Morning princess, you gave me and mummy quite a scare" Zosia told the young girl softly who looked up at her with tired eyes, it was an extremely late night so it wasn't a surprise she was tired.

"Where's mummy" Emma asked frowning wanting her mum.

"She's just gone to get a coffee, she'll be back soon" Zosia told the three year old even though she wasn't sure if that was true, a few minutes later Jac returned to the side room with two coffees, two muffin and a little cake for Emma, it was early but they needed the sugar after the late night.
