"Happy birthday Beowulf, happy birthday Beowulf. Happy birthday day dear Beowulf. Happy birthday to you."

Cringing at the horrible singing I smiled at my boy. Today was the day when he shifted into his human form. My eyes once again glazed over with tears as I picked him up. He was so cute as he licked my face.

He had learned that I'm his father and protector. It was only 11 and at 12 he will shift into his human form. Sitting him back down on the ground I allowed him to go play with the other pups

"I see you've grown." The packs healer Doloris voice floated into my ears. I smiled before pulling her in for a hug. She had always been that motherly figure even though I had my real mom. She had always been someone I could look up to.

My mother forbidded her from coming anywhere near me in fear of me loving Doloris more then her. That fear clung to her throughout my childhood and some part through my juvinell years. I though when turning 18 got back into contact with Doloris abd ever since then our friendship has flourished.

"Yeah and became a dad." She smiled at me. "I always knew their was happiness after the pain." That was another thing about Doloris, she always spoke in riddles. I smiled at her and nodded. "Shall we?" I asked as I held my arm out. "We shall." She said taking it and we walked over to the moon pool.

Every pup was to be sat in the moon pool before shifting into their human form. It helps us adults understand what their rank will be before they grow up. Only a close family member was to go in with the pup and then come out to tell the awaiting pack.

Picking Beowulf up I gladly brought him into the cave. The cave was just as I remembered. A beautiful purple shined from the rocks as the moon laid beautifully on the pond. Clear as water, I took all my clothes off except my underwear and Beowulf whimpered but I shushed him with a reassuring kiss to the head.

Getting into the water, it was fairly warm. Moving towards the middle of the water, I made sure to kick my legs to keep both of us up. It was a test to the family memeber who was choosen to see if they had the strength to uphold themselves and their pup as they both grow older.

I smiled as the water began to shimmer, a good sign that the transformation was coming soon. I smiled at Beowulf before it happened.

The water turned gold. Fucking gold.
