I squeaked as I dashed through the bushes, scrambling as fast as I could with Wren on my tail. A permanant smile was glued onto my face as I let him chase me.
We flew through the town, probibly looking like complete idiots as we darted in and out of legs, over trash cans and on top of roofs. After a while, I had slowed down a bit, finally giving Wren the chance to tackle me and pin me to the ground.
I grinned up at him, fully aware that he was annoyed with his new nickname. I snickered as his peircing eyes drilled holes into my skull, but I didn't care in the slightest.
"I told you not to call me that again!" He grumbled.
"I never promised that I'd stop!" I countered with a smug tone.
"I gave you fair warning..."
"What are you gonna do?" I pressed, narrowing my eyes in a challange.
"You know I'm the least favorite Neko in town..."
"And?"
"Well, you're about to see why..." He grinned devilishly as he jumped off and appeared behind me. Before I had time to react, he had picked me up with my scruff inbetween his teeth.
I squeaked in surprise and squirmed, kicking and swiping my paws at him, doing nothing to stop what ever he had planned. After seeing my attempts had obviously no affect on him, I surrendered, letting my body go limp as he carried me across the roof tops.
"Is this really nessicary? If you had just asked me to follow you, I would have..." I grumbled.
"Oh really? And why would you do that?" He mumbled around my fur.
I was silent, not quite sure how to respond. "I-I don't know... I guess I would just be... curious..?"
"Is that the best you could come up with?" He sounded unimpressed.
I huffed as slumped as I was dangled in the air. I crossed my paws and studied our surroundings as Wren travled through the town. He seemed to know where he was going.
"Where are we going?" I couldn't help to ask.
"This way..." He mumbled.
"What's this way?"
"The place we're going."
"Why are we going this way?"
"Because you didn't listen to me."
"What's gonna happen to me?"
No answer.
The conversation died as he continued walking. About thirty minutes later, he finally dropped me down the side of a wall onto a pile of old boxes and jumped down himself. I hopped down the rest of the way and sat at the base, waiting patiently for some sort of explaination.
He turned his head and peered at me. "What?"
"Are you gonna tell me what's going on?"
"No." He muttered and turned away. His cold attitude seemed to be back. Seeing him like this again after getting a taste of his carefree and joyful side was frustrating. I wanted to see more of him, more of the sides he kept hidden from the towns people, and I was set on reaching those sides and exposing them.
My face scrunched up in annoyance as he walked deeper into the alley we were in. I followed a little ways away, wary and cruious at the same time.
"What is this place?" I asked, scanning the dark alley way as I still followed Wren.
"This is my home... well, the place where I live.. it's not really a suitable HOME..."
My jaw went slack as I took in the sight in front of me. Boxes upon boxes were piled up, almost reaching the top of the old abandoned factory they were leaning against. Holes had been cut, creating path ways between all the boxes. Planks of wood linked some of them, like bridges. I could tell he spent a lot of his time as a cat, cuz the holes and planks didn't look like they could support a full sized Neko.
"Did you build this..?" I breathed in awe.
"Yeah,"
I waited for him to continue and explain how he made this giant fortress, but he just kept on walking. With a swish of his tail, he disappeared into the shadows of a giant box on the bottom. I poked my head in and looked around, but he wasn't there.
"What are you waiting for? Get up here!"
I looked up and saw his annoyed face poking out of a small hole in the top of the box. The light behind him shined down onto the ground, creating a cat-head-shaped shadow on the ground.
"How'd you get up there?!"
He scoffed. "Figure it out!"
I frowned. "Not really a gentleman, are we now?" I grumbled sarcasticaly.
After trying to navigate the maze Wren called home, I finally made it to the top of the big box... only, now he was no where to be seen. I let out a loud groan and sat right where I stood.
"WREN!! WHERE THE HELL DID YOU GO!!??"
"Are you frickin' BLIND!? I'm down here, you idiot!"
I snapped my angry eyes down to where the voice came from, seeing Wren out of his cat form, standing in a shaft of light. His arms were crossed and he was tapping his foot in an annoyed fashion.
I stuck my tongue out at him before jumping down and morphing into my Neko. I stepped forward, wobbling slightly on my two legs after being carried as a cat for so long.
He scoffed again before walking away into the warehouse hidden behind the box-maze montrosity. I had to jog to catch up to him. I swung my arms and looked around, my inhanced vision helping with the dim lighting.
"Is this where you like to hide from all the scary people?" I asked mokingly.
He whipped around, a blank expression twitching with frustration.
"I am this close to shoving you into a bath of ice cubes, so unless you wanna catch hypothermia and die, I would advize you to shut your mouth and get rid of that snarky attitude of yours!" He stormed off with a huff, shoving his hands in his pockets and leaving me blinking in surprise.
Then a smile spread across my face as I watched him walk away. "Anger, check..." I hurried after him.
